Many of us have personal threads here on LT. Plus we have reviews on the books pages. Why not create a smart link between the two?

For example, create a link from the review page that a user can post somewhere that shows the review in some nice manner and has (I don't know the term) live links such that a reader can thumb the review in the thread or wherever they post this link.

Just thinking out loud. Maybe this is outside the LT concept. And probably there are much better ideas. Or possibly this is just a terrible idea. Anyway, feel free to post thoughts.

Good idea - I often find myself copying and pasting my reviews into more than one thread, and I notice that there are quite a few people who put reviews in their Talk threads but not on the Work page.

A touchstone-like way to display your own reviews inline in a Talk post would definitely be useful. Maybe it would be good to have reciprocal links to the talk posts created in the footer of the review as well ("This review is cited in 2 Talk posts"). That goes some way towards the often-requested "discuss this review" feature.

I don't know much about web-design and links, but I also love these ideas. I also think I'd use the "friends" feature (which I don't see much point to now) if I could search a book's reviews to see if any of my "friends" had posted.

Links are good, but the idea of making thumbs-up even more of a "My friend wrote this review" indicator than they already are doesn't really appeal to me.

>4 lorax: what I meant was that reviews mean more to me if I know the person who wrote them. So I will scroll through the reviews for a book I'm interested in to read the reviews of people who I've gotten to know on LT over the past 8 years. I don't need to agree with a review for it to appeal to me, but a review means more if you know about the reading tendencies of the person who wrote it.

>5 japaul22:

Sorry, I wasn't clear; I was responding to the OP's suggestion that "a reader can thumb the review in the thread or wherever they post this link.". Filtering reviews by connections is something I'd like too, but having the thumbs-up count move even more in the direction of "This review was posted to a thread that a lot of people read" is not.

>6 lorax: Yes, I'd like to see any actions to be taken on a review — thumbing, flagging, even posting the review initially — remain on the work/book page. Ideally, there would be an option of somehow making it viewable from a Talk thread in whatever technical manner is most feasible: copying "embed" code or something similar, perhaps.

There is already a way to share a link back to a specific review.

Just like on most pages, there is a link icon that makes the URL the permalink to that review, which you can then copy and paste.

>4 lorax: I know some users are really worried about numbers from followers, vs those for the "best" reviews. But reviews already get thumbs because of followers far more than the they do from those reading through a books reviews on the review page. So, I think this concern is already happening anyway, and has been for many years.

>8 gilroy: We already have simple links, but they require loading a separate page. But what about avoiding that, posting the whole review on the thread, or even outside LT through a link with code? Something like the widgets.
