I remember reading a book in the back of our truck between 1989-1992. Could've been older than that. Anyway, I remember it featuring a family of mice, and focusing on the daughter. I also remember in the beginning the log they were living in being struck by lightning twice in the same place and they had to find somewhere else to live.

Hard to find if what shows up is what I'm looking for without an easy way to confirm, but I start to wonder if the girl mouse might have possibly been Angelina Ballerina - the name "Angelina" does ring a bell.

>2 drbubbles:, that would be Lightning Strikes Twice, the book that came with "Woodsey's Log House". My parents still have the book, the house, etc. Grandkids play with it now. But lots of discrepancies:
- it's squirrels not mice
- it's a son, not a daughter
- their first home is a tree, not a log (it becomes a log)
- I think one lightning strike is sufficient to destroy their first home, but the title makes me unsure now; haven't looked at it in a while.

Just throwing it out there, because it's a girl mouse but she's the mom trying to save her children, and their log is threatened by the farmer's plow, not lightning.

I had someone else suggest "Lightning Strikes Twice" but I'm pretty sure it wasn't so obvious as to be in the title... o.o;

And I know it wasn't NiMH. I've never read NiMH, or seen the movie.

>1 buricco: But Angelina Ballerina has never lived in a log.

Heather Buchanan had a small series of books about an Emily Mouse and her family (Emily Mouse's First Adventure, 1985). I don't really recall their plots, but they match your timeframe.

It's possible. Checking any given book would be difficult, and I'm relying on 25 years of faded memory.
