When brining in new records, lately I've seen a lot of text, that should be in the Main Page Library Description field show up in the work page Summery (auto generated) field. Perhaps I've just not paid attention to the Summary field in the past, but it seem to happen quite a bit now, maybe 25-35% of the time.
From this morning, "little buddha, bertolucci" using Colorado Unified Catalog (Prospector) as a datasource and choosing ISBN 078881611X
Is this normal, or a data field mismatch?

>1 CtrSacredSciences: I'm not following the issue you're reporting here. I don't understand what you mean by "Main Page Library Description." Is that on one of your book pages, or something you're seeing in your catalog? Please be more specific about how and where you're seeing this information. Include links, if possible.

>2 lorannen: I've been noticing this, too. For new books being entered, the summary field, instead of having the title and author information that we are used to seeing there, often now contains a description of the plot. That information ought to be on the main work page under 'library descriptions'.
I can't give you links because I always delete these 'summaries' to get the title author info that is the traditional LT content for the summary field in our entries.
I assume this is part of a new way of reading source information, but it is a pain because it is changing the way that field works.

What >3 MarthaJeanne: said! I've also seen this and also delete it (or maybe cut/paste it into Comments if I like it :-)

OK, to duplicate, enter 9780986338106. The Overcat entry is from ILCSO. You will get a long text in the summary field.
The text, while unwelcome there, would be useful on the descriptions page http://www.librarything.com/work/15765257/descriptions/141717642 where it is missing.

>5 MarthaJeanne: Thanks for that! I'm finishing up ER right now, but will test shortly. Now that I have an example to work with, I should be able to replicate.

I can add a book or two to the list as well:

So, the weird thing is that, to my knowledge, we haven't been parsing add books data any differently lately. I'll have to get a developer to weigh in on this. I'm not convinced it's a bug, but worth looking at, either way.
ETA: The example in >5 MarthaJeanne: actually contains text that looks, to me, like a valid summary. Is there a reason it shouldn't be appearing there? Here's the copy I just added: https://www.librarything.com/work/15765257/details/142074627.

>8 lorannen:
It's a perfectly valid summary of what the book is about. It is not a perfectly valid summary of the basic book information, which is what the LT summary field is intended for, and what it's always previously been used for.

And that sort of thing never appeared there until quite recently.

What >9 lorax: and >10 MarthaJeanne: said. Annoying new behaviour. Started a couple of weeks ago?

>8 lorannen: May or may not be a bug, but it's recent.
With "Little Buddha" the film, when I bring it in from Prospector the Summary field says "In a big American city, a boy and his family discover a story about a prince in a land of miracles. But the miracle becomes real when Tibetan monks appear, searching for their leader's reincarnation -- who they believe has been reborn in the boy. Suddenly, their worlds meet, leading the Americans on an extraordinary adventure."
Which is great text for the "library description" field below CK. But "Little Buddha video recording by Bernardo Bertolucci (2003)" is what should be in the detail page summary field.
