Akunin or Christie?

What a dilemma!

I am going to allow myself one detective before Christmas - and I can't make my mind up - Does Agatha get it, or Akunin?

Agatha Christie is loading the shelves - and I do fancy an omnibus with the Captain Hastings stories - but there's an Akunin I also want to read . . .

I think it depends on which Akunin. Is it a Fandorin one?

Yep - I've read three of those and this is a fourth (I think).

Not sure it was a good decision - suspect the translation! Watched Poirot's Christmas in compensation on the tv.

I've only had two Fandorin books, though I own all of Agatha Christie's, so for me the decision would have been rather easy. Still, I'm sorry it turned out disappointing (which is also a bit dampening on the prospect of buying more Boris Akunin). Speaking of Christmas detectives in other mediums, I'm just about to listen, via 'Listen Again', to BBC Radio 4's reading of Sayers's The Nine Tailors, the "Book at Bedtime" for the next two weeks.

Touchstone for AC will, surprisingly, not load.

Not exactly disappointing in the story - just suspect the translation!
Yes to Sayers - you know, I'd forgotten all about her - old age and too much port!
