For The Odyssey, I highly recommend Robert Fitzgerald's translation. I found it very readable. I believe he's also done The Iliad, but I can't speak for its quality.

Thanks for the tip about translations. I already have copies, but translations can be so tricky, I may check out the author you mentioned.

I have recently purchased the Churchill books so I look forward to hearing what you think of them. Reading them seems like such as daunting task.

Mcna, the Churchill books are definitely not easy reads. Every time I was interrupted while reading, I had to start over at the beginning of the page to figure out where I had been. I've heard other people say they can only manage about a chapter a day. Don't let this put you off of them though! Churchill is an excellent writer, and the events of WWII are clearly laid out. I just finished the Gathering Storm, and I feel like I just climbed a mountain or something, lol.

Ugh, I've made so little progress on this challenge my thread became dormant! Oh, well at least I finally got to read Cat Deck the Halls, the latest of the Joe Grey mysteries.

Ok, I went ahead and deleted my lists because I obviously wasn't getting anywhere.
