Cheli's 10th 75 book challenge
Join LibraryThing to post.
2017 was a bit of a different year for me. I took a bad fall at the end of May tearing my rotator cuff and bicep tendon on my dominant arm, but was unable to get it surgical repaired until mid-September. So, I wasn't able to do too much except for read. I'm not complaining about that part, just the suffering that went along with it.
Tim and I are heading out on a cruise January 7th and I've got 15+ books to take along with me. (Thank the lord for e-books!)Hopefully my travels will allow me time for reading.
I'm hoping to read at least 100 books this year with at least 75% being books that I have in my possession as of January 1.
Happy reading to everyone!
I hope you are cruising some place warm! If not, I hope you can find a nice place to curl up and read. Hope your year is filled with good reads!
You deserve a great cruise after what you went through last year, Cheli. I hope you have some reading time but not too much!
Welcome back Cheli! Have a wonderful cruise - where will you be going on your travels? And happy reading for the New Year, of course. :)
Happy new year, Cheli. Where is your cruise taking you? Just remember... ebook readers don't like getting wet, so don't drop it overboard or into the pool .
Happy New Year
Happy New Group here
This place is full of friends
I hope it never ends
It brew of erudition and good cheer.
Single Malt Murder
Abi Logan, award-winning photojournalist, isn't at her uncle's deathbed, so she feels she needs to go to see her inheritance, Abbey Glen distillery in Scotland. She soon discovers that a woman owner is not going to receive a warm welcome - quite the contrary - death threats and sabotage greet her. When one of the workers is found dead in a whiskey vat, Abi decides that she isn't giving up ownership until she figures out wheat is really going on.
I thought that this was a great first series offering with complex characters, great setting, and interesting background information all woven together to grab the readers interest immediately. Sure wish I could truly visit this venue.
My husband's not a reader but I know he would have enjoyed the parts about the whiskey tastings!
Hi, Cheli. Dropping a star.
Hope you're having a great cruise! It sounds warm and wonderful.
>18 cyderry: Last year I read the sequel to this book, Death Distilled. It had some funny parts and was interesting - I too wish I could visit. One thought I had about the series is that I think the author would have more book ideas using Abi's photojournalist career, instead of trying to set books around a distillery.
I was just going through a list of the books in the series that I've started and thought it would be interested to see how many I still need to read to be current on all my series without any new books coming out.
Now I'm depressed because when I added them all up, the total came to 141!!! I couldn't get current this year if I tried!!
They'd have to lock me up without any communication to get all those books read.
>21 cyderry: My mother always said she'd like to get arrested so she could do nothing but read. I would point out to her that she'd probably be assigned laundry duty.
>21 cyderry: LOL - I'd have more than that in my total if I looked at all the series. I did decide to try to get caught up on some and read either 2, 3, or 4 this year of others. Hopefully that will help me get through them. I just binged over at NetGalley so I'll be weaving those in after I finish the one I've had since early January and the two other reads for February. Two are in process. I also have an audiobook in process.
Spent the weekend celebrating my grandson's birthday, his expression was priceless!
A few extra prayers for my 93 year old mother would be appreciated, I think she's dying.
Just catching up. Is your mother doing OK now? I am glad to see the post about her being better. I hope she has made a full recovery.
I am very, very far behind on posting here, but I can say that I finished #75 this week! I will try to catch up soon!
I was going to try to post some reviews here for the books I've read in 2018 a nd now realize that I've only posted one for the 77 I've read so, I've decided that I'm going to give a list with my rating and if you are interested, you can look at my review on the book page. I may give a tiny and I mean tiny blurb as well.

Holy mackerel!! Congrats on reaching 75. I had no idea you were so into murder mysteries. But now I know who to come to for suggestions!!
My friends, could I please ask a few extra prayers for my Mom. She took a fall and is in the hospital again - she fractured her pelvis for the second time.
Hoping it's not too bad but extra prayers can't hurt, right?
Update on MOM - they transferred her today to rehab and she is well enough to complain that the ambulance driver was going too fast and that the sun was shining her eyes and that the room they assigned her was too noisy. She'll be fine! Thanks for the prayers!
Hi, Cheli! Congrats on 75!
I'm sorry your mom fell and broke her pelvis again, but glad to hear that she's recovering nicely!
OH! So sorry to hear about your Mom. Glad everyone's prayers worked. I am a little late to the recovery so I will pray that is doesn't happen again--two times is more than enough!
I just realized that I missed my 10 year anniversary with LibraryThing! It happened last week - guess I was busy reading!
Happy belated THINGAVERSARY!!! Now you have a great excuse to buy a few books, right? : )
>47 Berly: Do I need an excuse? I've been good this year and only "bought" 6 books, however, I have been bad and acquired 103 in other ways. Good for my wallet, bad for my shelves!
>48 cyderry: Book storage are not limited to shelves. There's the floor, tables, nightstand...
Nice job on acquiring so many books without paying!!
