Keeping the thread open for 2019
Rachel is coming to Portland December 23-27!!
Hey! RebaRelishesReading is headed our way April 21-27, 2018. Anyone available for a meetup? : )
Wouldn't miss it and, besides, I have a gift card from Christmas that needs spending :)
At this point my calendar is open. Yay!
Thanks for setting up the thread Kim
Ah, I see we have actual dates now. April 22-26. I will check the calendar tomorrow.
April 22 is Sunday, which may be easiest for anyone out of town, but that is also Reba's arrival date, so I don't know. The rest are weekdays, so maybe dinner and Powell's in the evening? We will have to wait for more info from RRR. Her first priority is going to be the arrival of a new grandson and seeing other family members. : )
I'm hoping to make it over from Montana (finally!) for the June meetup.
I'm going to try to get to Portland in April for the Reba meetup or in June for the Beth meetup, or, in the best of all possible worlds, for both.
I don't know exact dates yet, but my family reunion in Bend is from June 30 to July 7. Not sure if I will make it to Portland before, during, or after those dates.
Hey, I'm likely going to visit the Portland area with Aaron and the kids at least once this year, so I'll keep watch on this thread to see if I can organize a visit around a big meetup. :)
>9 Berly: No, we're actually arriving on the 21st and we leave on the 27th. The Sunday would work fine for us (although I probably shouldn't be away for the whole day but Powell's and lunch or coffee would work fine).
It's exciting so many people are hoping to attend!
Thanks for creating this thread, Kim! Still hammering out our spring break plans. I remember hearing all the hype about Powell's and thinking, "well, we have the Tattered Cover here in Denver..." BUT I HAD NO IDEA!! I'd love a chance to go back and especially to meet you! My daughter is at Willamette Univ. in Salem.
> 19 Twin! End of August, beginning of July? Maybe try end of June, beginning of July? :)
>20 AMQS: Let us know when you figure out the dates! Willamette Univ in Salem...not too far for a visit and I assume you will be flying into Portland. What year is she? You could bring her along to Powell's. If you do I could bring my daughter---she love Powell's!! (She's 21)
>21 BLBera: Twin--Thanks. Fixed. Brain cramp. : )
>20 AMQS: Very cool! I grew up in Salem and The Hubster is a Willamette alum.
There's a chance I'll be out there from the 24th of March to the 1st of April, but these plans have not been solidified. It's the kids' spring break.
In June, the only days I can't do it, for sure, are 6/9 and 6/10. We have our big book fair here, and it's a family tradition (no surprise) to go to it.
The organizers of my June meeting in PDX sent out a preferred date survey today. All of them are in the twenty-somethings.
And... if folks from out of town are coming into Portland I will do my best to be there. June 21 - 24 are out of the question but otherwise I will prioritize any PDX meet up over all other forms of entertainment.
>29 EBT1002: Sounds like good news, Ellen! The twenty-somethings in June work for this guy.
High School Graduation is June 6th for me. So, less favorable days in June are now 6, 9, 10, and 21-24. Still workable!!
Kim: It looks like July 5 or 6 would work best for me. I could make it on either Thursday or Friday and stay over one night, either one.
I can possibly make an extra trip to Portland but the dates I will be there, regardless, are June 27 - 29. I will tentatively plan to stay over until at least that Saturday, June 30, for meeting up with folks. I will be done with my work-related meetings around noon or 1pm on Friday, June 29.
>32 BLBera: And if it's at all possible for me to come back down for a second set of meet-ups, I'll do it!
I would love to see you, Ellen. I hope it works for you. I thought I would have more flexibility, but it's not turning out. It's a long story. I'll PM you.
OK, if this sounds right, I'm going to plan on being in Portland for a meetup on Saturday June 30.
I should be able to be there on April 22. I am looking forward to seeing you all again.
I am planning on the 4/22. Ironically, I will probably be up in Seattle for the June 30th meet-up. Bummed to miss Ellen and Joe. I am hoping to be around for the July 5 or 6th, however.
Rhonda, so glad I'm going to get to meet you and other Portlanders. I'm excited :)
I can't make the April 22 meet up because I will have visitors from New York in our guest room but I'll be there in June!
Me either for 4/22. We've got a grandbaby coming in that last part of April, and they want us there. But I plan to be in Portland on 6/30.
>42 EBT1002: YES!!!!!!!
Are we all still on for the 22nd? I hope so because I am looking forward to it! Ideas for lunch place/time? Honestly, I would vote for the Deschutes Brewery, so close to Powell's and the food is reliable.
We decided we need to spend a little more time in Portland than originally planned so we're going to leave Wednesday morning for our drive up and expect to arrive Thursday evening. I'll be a devoted grandma on Friday and Saturday and then I can't wait to see you all on Sunday!! Any place is fine with me for lunch.
OK!!! Is noon good? Address of Deschutes: 210 NW 11th Ave.
Portland, OR 97209 (just a couple blocks from Powell's.)
I plan to be there. Noon works for me. I'm looking forward to it.
Did anyone make reservations? How many are there for Sunday?
Anyone I missed?
Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow! And isn't this weather fabulous!
Books, Deschutes brews, and wonderful LT buddies --- I'm thinking yesterday was a wonderful day!!
>57 EBT1002: Yes it was! Later today I'll update my thread. Too busy yesterday and today and I need to take a photo of my purchases too.
So, just to keep dates on everyone's calendar....the upcoming visits are:
Saturday, June 30 -- EBT1002/Ellen and jnwelch/Joe
Thursday July 5 or Friday July 6 with BLBera/Beth ???
Twin, are you sticking with this or are you trying to move your trip to coincide with Joe's?
>59 Berly: I don't know yet. Let me get back to you when I get back from Ireland. :)
>59 Berly: Right - and there's a possibility Walklover/Debbi, my favorite wife, may join us.
I'm in for June 30th!
I'm devastated about not being able to make the July 5th/6th one though.
I am afraid that I will be out of town for June 30th. I am really bummed to miss it and looking forward to pictures. I should be around July 5th and 6th.
I'm sorry I won't be able to make either one. I'll be out of town on both dates. Bummer!
Hi all - I think I will be able to be in Portland on Thursday, July 5. I'll arrive in the afternoon and leave sometime on Friday, July 6. Could people meet for a meal on Thursday afternoon/evening? Deschutes sounds great; I've never been.
Saturday, June 30 -- jnwelch/Joe
Who is coming?
Kim/Berly and hubby
Joe, what time works for you? Do you want to do Powell's before or after eating? I am assuming we are doing dinner? Or does lunch work better?
Thursday July 5 -- with BLBera/Beth
Deschutes at 5:30? (I should be out of jury duty by then. Yes, I got called, again, and they chose the day after the Fourth of July. Sigh.) And then Powell's after?
Attendees so far:
I'm in for the 30th.
I can't do dinner on the 5th - getting ready to head out of town right after work on Friday.
However - I work downtown and get off work around 4pm. If anyone is available to/wants to meet for a cocktail or glass of wine about 4:15 - 4:30 I could delay heading home from downtown long enough for a quick visit.
Portland City Grill (same building where I work) is just a few blocks from the Powell's/Deschutes area and has a spectacular view for happy hour.
>68 Berly: Good questions, Kim. Hmm. I'll check with Mrs. Joe on timing. I think she was thinking lunch, but I'll check and get back to you pronto. Sorry we'll miss Rhonda and Beth, and it looks like you already know Ellen can't make it.
Madame MBH says dinner sounds good. We're flexible, but seafood and vegetarian works well for us.
Do you want to meet at Powell's? Is any particular time good?
>72 SuziQoregon: >73 BLBera: If I don't get chosen for Jury Duty, I should be off early enough to meet for drinks on July 5th. Otherwise I can just catch up a little later for dinner or Powell's.
>75 jnwelch: I will find us a seafood and/or vegetarian spot for dinner on Saturday, June 30th! : )
How about we do Powell's beforehand. Anyone else have a preference? I will narrow down the time once I find a restaurant...Suggestions here also welcome....
Yeah, I am bummed Ellen can't make it. She is kinda busy though...!
For Thursday, July 5th - I can't make the dinner but if anyone else is available, Beth and I are meeting at 4pm at the Portland City Grill for a drink. 30th Floor of the US Bank Tower (Big Pink).
We're planning to be at Powell's around 4 pm on Saturday, 6/30? We can adjust if there's a better time.
Joe--check out the link below for restaurants and see what appeals. I know Clyde Commons, Henry's Tavern, Jakes Famous Crawfish and Deschutes Brewery are all great. Various price points. I am also willing to try any others you see there that you like! Some of them we might need reservations....let me know!
I will meet you at Powell's at 4:00 on Saturday and PM you my phone number so we can find each other. Can't wait to see you! Is Debi coming? In which case I will try to talk Walt into meeting us for dinner.
Juli, are you still coming? : )
I didn't see any links below, Kim, but I'm sure they're all fine. We don't like Indian food (surprisingly), and don't eat meat, and Debbi doesn't like sushi, but otherwise we're flexible as all get out. I remember folks having a good time at Deschutes Brewery, and that would probably be my #1 if other folks like it. If not, whatevers. :-)
We leave for the plane soon!
Debbi is coming, and we'll look forward to meeting you at the Powell's coffee shop at 4 pm or so tomorrow. Woot!
Dang it!! Here they are...
Yes I'll be there - I'll meet y'all at the coffee shop at Powell's at 4pm. I'm in for dinner too.
Sorry that I missed the fun this weekend. It looks like you all had a great time.
I am looking forward to the meet-up on the 5th. I probably can't get to the drinks at 4, but I will try.
I will be through the area around Labor Day. I don't know what my exact plans are as I am flying to see my new husband's family without my husband, and my MiL is buying the ticket. (Wants to see her grandchildren, of course, even if her son can't make it.) I will try to work with her to get a day to come down to Portland for a meetup. It'll likely be the week just approaching or just following the holiday weekend. I will be at my husband's family reunuion (sans husband) over the weekend. I thought it important that my step kids are there, even if he's not. Keep you updated!
>86 The_Hibernator:. Yay! Keep us posted, Rachel.
I will probably get downtown about 5:30 tomorrow. do we want to meet at Deschutes or at Powell’s?
I'll be able to have a meetup on August 28, 29, or 30th if anybody is interested.
It looks like I could make an evening meet-up any of those days, Rachel, but I will be working during the days.
I might be able to do an after work thing. Our plans for that week are kind of nebulous at this point.
My schedule is pretty open, so an after work/ evening meetup is fine by me. In fact, Aaron will probably be able to come along in the evening, as he got permission to work from Oregon for the week. :)
Perfect!! We get to see both of you! Do you want to choose a night now or wait a little and see what people's schedules look like?
I don't think I have any preference...it's nice knowing somewhat in advance since Aaron's mom will want to be making plans with us, too, so I'm guessing reserving a day that works for all of us should be best.
Okay guys! We are getting close to this meet-up. Can everyone weigh in on what days they are available? It looks like we need to do an afterwork time so that more people can come.
Is everyone up for Deschuttes again? Does 5:00 work? Dinner first and then Powell's afterwards?
August 28, 29 and 30th.
I am available for all three dates. : )
I can do any of the days, but I guess the 30th would be my choice. 5 pm is early for me, can we do 5:30or 6?
Or I can run late.
At this point I'm available any of those days. I'm fairly flexible on time too.
If the 30th is best, that's cool with me. If Aaron is to come, 6 would be better, but he doesn't have to come if that's too late for others.
Let's do it! Aaron should come.
6pm on Thursday the 30th.
Deschuttes for dinner

(just a couple blocks from Powell's)
Thanks for asking, Kim! If we are talking about MLK day, either Sunday or Monday could work for me. (20th or 21st) Or maybe Saturday later in the day/evening? It looks like the next couple of weekends are busy, February the 9th and 10th are pretty open.
Now that I know Reba will be in town, I am hoping maybe January Friday 18th, Sunday 20th or Monday 21st could work!! Can't do Saturday the 19th--already have tix to something in the evening.
We arrive late Friday evening and depart late Monday afternoon. The actual party isn't scheduled yet but looks like it will be Saturday (they mentioned a women's march scheduled for Sunday that might be a logistical problem). I'm pretty sure Monday morning/early afternoon would work. Sunday a possibility.
I'm really excited I may get to see you guys again. I was thinking it would be great to meet-up but didn't mention it because I thought a holiday weekend (especially when I'm somewhat committed) probably wouldn't be possible.
I don't have Monday off work so Sunday would work best for me but if the Women's march is that day it could be problematic. If Monday ends up working best for you guys that's OK.
What about Sunday at the Powell's in Beaverton? Not the Mother Ship of course but . . . .
Actually, the women’s march is rescheduled so Sunday could work. Another thought if we want to do something different is Molly Bloom’s. Though I do have a Powell’s gift card.
If the March isn't going to be happening that makes Sunday a better option. I've also got Powell's gift cards but another bookstore could be fun too. Do you mean Annie Bloom's?
Just heard from our daughter and the birthday party is Saturday noon so either Sunday or Monday is fine with me. I'll have a car so any location is OK as well.
This ay be a duplicate post, but the first try is not posting yet....Sunday would be great! Yes, it is Annie Blooms Bookstore. I have a slight preference for Powell's but can go either way.
Just tossing out an alternative to the usual Deschutes Brewery . . .
Jake’s Grill is 3 1/2 blocks from Powell’s and they have a fairly varied weekend brunch menu.
>This is Jake’s Grill not the main Jake’s. Same company, slightly different menu.
OK, I am good with either Jake's or Deschutes, or.... Jake's is a little pricier. What do you think, Kim and Reba?
Either one if fine with me. I checked out the menu link and there was plenty that looked good and I think we met at Deschutes last time and I liked it too. Just let me know when and where to show up :)
Deschutes menu is here
Let's try Jake's just to change things up a little. When should we meet for lunch? 11:30?
Also, I think NittNut is in town this same time--I will check with her.
11:30 or even 11am works for me since we're going someplace kind of brunchy. I'll make a reservation once we decide.
Either time works for me! Also, did we reach out to Jan? Oregonreader? I haven't seen her on the 2019 group.
I don't have Jan's contact info but I left a message on her profile page.
11 or 11:30 sounds great to me. It would be great if Jenn (KnittNut) could join us. I've never met her but have followed her for several years. I'm getting so excited!!
OK - I've made us a reservation for 11am on Sunday the 20th at Jake's Grill.
I reserved a table for 6 in case Jenn or Jan can make it. I can always modify the reservation later if we end up with fewer people.

Even though you can't see me, I am sitting here with my head hanging low. I think there is a curse on me to prevent me from making these meet-ups! A very old friend from Australia let me know that she is passing through the area on Sunday and Monday and will be staying with me. Of course I am happy to see her, but I had been very excited about the meet-up.
Raise a glass to me to lift the curse and scout out lots of good books at Powell's.
>141 Oregonreader: We'll miss you but nice that you can visit with your friend from so far away.
Ahh..too bad! (Maybe she would like to see Powell's and have a nice brunch???) :)
I am really looking forward to this meetup. Jan, we will miss you but another time? Or maybe your friend wants to come meet us? We won't bite.
>141 Oregonreader: Our reservation is still for 6 people so if you want to bring your friend we've got room.
Rachel is coming to Portland December 23-27. Who's in town and does before or after Christmas work better?
Let us know!!
Yes, we are going to have an after-holiday get-away. If plan's change, I will check back in.
Just can't make this one. I'm swamped both at work and home until after the 31st.
We're planning to visit little grandson in the spring and I'm hoping a meet-up will be happening while we're there :)
