LibraryThing has been my primary bookish home on the internet for 12 years at this point, but that doesn’t mean it needs to be my only home!

I'm SuziQoregon on both. I've been randomly active and inactive for a while on Litsy. (Last post before today was 10 months ago) Maybe this will be what helps me make it a habit.

Just signed up on LibraryThing. I am the same--DebinHawaii here (and on Twitter and Instagram). Looking forward to learning more about LT.

I joined up on Litsy yesterday but I'm not hot on (so-called) smartphones so may well cancel soon. The site seems very difficult to navigate — for example to see TBR, reading, read.

I've had Litsy for a while now but haven't started actively using it until recently. @weeziesbooks is my handle!

Suggestions for LT newbies:

After you join, catalog at least a few books with reviews that you wrote of those books. Doing this will enable you to participate right away in Early Reviewers.

Look at the groups and start out with just one in an area of high interest for you. Too many groups become overwhelming. Be sure that it is an active group. Post some messages rather than lurk. Do NOT be afraid to post messages on threads started by other LTers. That’s how we get to know one another.

Pick one book challenge and do it! Communicate with others frequently as to how you’re coming along with your book challenge.

Let me know if these suggestions help you newbies feel more comfortable on LT. :)

>39 saresmoore: It all depends on what you like to do. If you’ve done any challenges on Litsy before, try one of those on LT. I’ve done the 50 Books, 75 Books, ROOTS, and Categories Challenges in the past as well as some smaller challenges. I’m now only on the 75 Books Challenge because I couldn’t do so many challenges at once.

When you’re comfortable on LT, you might try the TIOLI challenge of which I’m the hostess. I like it the best, but it’s probably the most complicated! TIOLI stands for Take It or Leave It.

>45 Andrew-theQM: There is a reason for that. I have pretty much kept it hidden because I manually code the challenges on the wiki and I didn’t want it to get too large for me to handle. I rarely advertise it at all. It is not a group per se so people generally have to ask what or where it is and don’t usually stumble upon it by accident. It’s actually hidden within the 75 Books challenge.

There are lots of different challenges to choose from, so you can pick!

I am AWahle on both. I haven't really used the social and review side over here - I've mostly started cataloging my books and DVDs.

BookCrawler is great, but some of the errors in user added titles drives me crazy. I haven't gotten very far in cataloging on Library Thing because most of my books are in 30+ banker's boxes in the crawl space, basement, etc.

Booknerd2 on both. I've been on Litsy over a year and love it. I just joined LibraryThing tonight.

I think most of y'all have already found me—I've been happy to see quite a few familiar usernames in these last couple days! I'm "lorannen" pretty much everywhere, including here and on Litsy.

I’m kgriffith on both now, but previously glitterfemme, glitterfem, or aglaia531, depending on where you know me from and from how long ago ;)
I’ve been on LibraryThing since late 2007 and Litsy since early 2016, so if we wanna get mathematical about it, roughly equivalent percentages of the time each platform has existed 🤓 Which is to say, I’ve done beta testing and bug squashing, had slumps, logged in every day, etc. In the end, though, these are the two bookish places on the web I always come back to.

I'm Vinjii on both serives. I joined LT this week, after finding out about it. I was always on Goodreads, never realised this amazing service is available!

Chelleo on Litsy. I've been on LT for 10+ years but really started digging in recently as I work through my collection of books (versus my reading tracking that I do on GR).

All right guys. I said I wasn't going to do this, but I have done it! FantasyChick on Litsy. I had one of these LT accounts a while back but started a fresh one today so let's see how it goes :)

Hi, all! I'm sprainedbrain on Litsy (I've been addicted for 2 years now), but brand new to LT. Attempting to import my GR books now. I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing... I can't even get a photo to be the right direction?!?

I’m casvelyn on Litsy too. I tend to forget to post over there, so if my Litsy profile is to be believed, I’ve been reading the same books since September. (Actually, I have been reading one book in particular since September. I’m now on page 28.)

Agreed with those wanting a web version. Various aspects of it sound interesting and I'd like to try it out, but I am not part of the modern trend of people forever glued to their phones; I don't do apps, I do websites, on my computer, where there is a real keyboard and a proper screen, while my phone is off over there somewhere, probably needing charging.

Yeah, posting images and photos on LT is the devil's own job. The help pages aren't much use either unless you happen to chance upon the one that explains it, which isn't the page you were looking for to help you with it.

Up until I got my iPad I would have agreed with you 100%. But Litsy seems like one of those things you can do when out and about, e.g. while waiting in a restaurant for someone to come and take your order, or waiting for your food to arrive.

I'm a fairly long-term LT member and have just joined Litsy, using the same name. I'm going to have to sit down and work my way through the Litsy tips and instructions before I can really take part in Litsy, though.

I use my iPad to acccess Litsy, and only access it at home. I use my iPad these days for internet access. Litsy works great on the iPad and you get alerts when messages come through.

So far I've managed to import all my books from Goodreads, but it looks like I need to seriously clean up my list based on what's actually in my library (that I actually own), versus just books I've read or want to read from all sources (which is basically what I used Goodreads as... a huge to-read and have read ongoing list.

I had 81 notifications when I landed at LAX this afternoon, and thankfully only a half dozen or so were tagging me to ask questions about LibraryThing, but it would make a huge difference for me to be able to type on a full keyboard when in work mode on Litsy.

I'm Anglemark on Litsy. I'm still trying to figure out whether it's for me. I'm not convinced yet, but I want to like it.

I'm @Jess7 on litsy and @thegreeneyedreader on here and most of my other bookish social media. I am finding Library Thing to be very difficult to use. It's not very intuitive and it's going to take me awhile to get used to it.

>93 thegreeneyedreader: Don't get discouraged. Know ahead of time that LibraryThing is HUGE. Start by picking one thing that you'd like to do and get involved in doing that first. Then move on to another area whenever you are ready.

I would suggest to right away add a few books with reviews. This will enable you to join in the Early Reviewers program which is so worthwhile! I would also pick just one group, start your own thread there and visit just a few other threads in the same group, joining in those conversations. Those thread host LTers generally will then come to visit your thread.

Just as an assist to any Littens that may not know: by clicking on a user name, you can view that user's profile. You can find out all kinds of nifty bookish information (examples: what books you share with the user, what books you should 'borrow' from the user), also what LT groups they belong to, and quite often, their location.

Hi, I am ardachy on Litsy having joined in the last few days. @Andrew-theQM, @sprainedbrain and @SqueakyChu I am already following. I am also ardachy on Bookcrossing.com since 2006 which is my main book home. I joined LibraryThing in 2013 but tend to come here for a while and then overlook it for a period. It will be interesting to see how I get on with Litsy.

I've been away from Litsy for a while (just really busy with work and family) but am hoping to participate in Dewey's Readthon there tomorrow. I find Litsy is terrific for that kind of event. Will anyone else be doing Dewey's Readathon tomorrow? BTW, I'm kwmg40 there.
