Newbies Practice Font & Photo Features

This thread has been specifically created to be linked to the Okay, explain! thread in which Hogwarts Express group members introduce newbies to LT and/or the Hogwarts Express group. That said, welcome to LT and the HE group!

This thread is designed for newbies (and those not so much newbies) to do some practice attempts of the LT font features as well as practice with posting photos. If you haven't yet read the thread linked above, I'll repeat the photo and font features in this post.

Just remove the spaces from the following, and insert one space where I've placed an underscore (_) in your posts for the desired photo effect or font.

Photos:
link to photo
" actual photo " >

Fonts:
italics
bold
underlined
crossed out
  • bullet points

  • Please note: bullet points and photos do not display in profile comments - they are just for thread posts.

    Okay, have fun!

A word about posting photos (cross-posted from the explanations thread): try not to post anything too ginormous, as it makes the entire thread where the big photo is posted hard to navigate.

How do you know if a picture is going to be too big? Well, if you're pulling it from Google Images, the size is listed. My rule of thumb is to not post anything too much over 500x500. Also, if you right-click on the picture and choose "view image" it shows you the picture at actual size. If it takes up your whole screen, it's going to be too big to post here!

What should you do if you accidentally post a huge picture? Well, the easiest thing is to just remove it from your post. As you probably have noticed, there's a little pencil symbol in the top right corner of your post. Looks something like this:

If you click on that, you can fix your typos, remove unwanted bulky pictures, and close those pesky font tags that make the whole rest of the thread bold and italic!

    Have fun!

I've heard there is a way to re-size pictures. If anyone remebers how, or knows where to find it, that would be a good thing to post.

That would be extremely helpful! I don't know how to do it (other than with pictures in my own Photobucket account, but that's another story).

catbastet, not a bad plan :)

jugglingpaynes, no, Obi is, how shall I put this? He's a bit slow. I didn't know that when I got him, or he wouldn't have ended up with a jedi name :) I would have kept his name to one syllable so it wouldn't be to hard for him to understand.

    74catbastet

Too bad. I could so imagine a conversation like this:

You want to give Obi-wan food.

You want to give Obi-wan your bed.

I want to give Obi-wan my bed.

If " actual photo " > is used for photos in posts, what is: link to photo used for?

    76DanoWins
    Jun 18, 2008, 9:11 pm

    Jun 18, 2008, 9:22 pm

Ah, that makes more sense to me. I thought, "what's the point of two confusing methods to add a photo to a post?"

    82DanoWins
    Jun 18, 2008, 9:35 pm

That's exactly how I learn too! Notes, patience and trial and error! I've starred this thread so that I'll have it handy, and I've scribbled all the codes down so I can tape it to my desk.

Does anyone know how to change the color of the font? Can it be done?

    110Kerian
    Edited: Feb 10, 2009, 1:12 pm

It can be done some places online, but it doesn't work on LT. I just learned the codes recently and attempted it on LT last week, I think.

    Blogger accepts the following colors:

    This would be in red.
    This would be in green.
    This would be in yellow.
    This would be in blue.
    This would be in purple.
    This would be in orange.
    This would be in brown.

How to Change Font Styles, which works on some parts of Blogger:

This would be in Sybil Green.
This would be in Minya Nouvelle.
This would be in Teen Light.
This would be in French Script MT.

Remove all spaces. Enter a space in place of underscores. (_)

Edited to correct codes which got erased when this was posed

    111kirbyowns
    Feb 10, 2009, 1:09 pm

    112Kerian
    Feb 10, 2009, 1:14 pm

Look now. Sorry! That was almost teasing. ;) LT ate the codes because I didn't put spaces between everything.

I did something weird to my computer then, too. The font is incredibly tiny. I can hardly see it!! I'm going to close my tab and open a new one, but we should seriously consider posting the codes for making font and screen sizes smaller and larger. ;) I think compski knows the codes.

So this is supposed to indent text.
    Does this indent it further?

And will the next one be invisible?

    Too soon to tell?

    And so it did indent.
And the next one did not further.

The one after only maybe invisible...

No longer too soon to tell but for this post edit.

yup. Darn rowdy koalas. I wish we had moved into a place next to a family of bandicoots instead. Quiet, peace-loving animals, bandicoots.

My husband asks if bandicoots climb into your trash like raccoons. That's what our neighbors have been doing. Late night parties in the neighbor's driveway.

Your neighbours climb into your trash?

No, bandicoots are much better behaved than that. That's why they don't have to wear little black masks for disguise.
