This thread has been specifically created to be linked to the Okay, explain! thread in which Hogwarts Express group members introduce newbies to LT and/or the Hogwarts Express group. That said, welcome to LT and the HE group!
This thread is designed for newbies (and those not so much newbies) to do some practice attempts of the LT font features as well as practice with posting photos. If you haven't yet read the thread linked above, I'll repeat the photo and font features in this post.
Just remove the spaces from the following, and insert one space where I've placed an underscore (_) in your posts for the desired photo effect or font.
Photos:
link to photo
" actual photo " >
Fonts:
italics
bold
underlined
crossed out
bullet points
Please note: bullet points and photos do not display in profile comments - they are just for thread posts.
Okay, have fun!

A word about posting photos (cross-posted from the explanations thread): try not to post anything too ginormous, as it makes the entire thread where the big photo is posted hard to navigate.
How do you know if a picture is going to be too big? Well, if you're pulling it from Google Images, the size is listed. My rule of thumb is to not post anything too much over 500x500. Also, if you right-click on the picture and choose "view image" it shows you the picture at actual size. If it takes up your whole screen, it's going to be too big to post here!
What should you do if you accidentally post a huge picture? Well, the easiest thing is to just remove it from your post. As you probably have noticed, there's a little pencil symbol in the top right corner of your post. Looks something like this:

If you click on that, you can fix your typos, remove unwanted bulky pictures, and close those pesky font tags that make the whole rest of the thread bold and italic!
Have fun!

I've heard there is a way to re-size pictures. If anyone remebers how, or knows where to find it, that would be a good thing to post.
4foggidawn
That would be extremely helpful! I don't know how to do it (other than with pictures in my own Photobucket account, but that's another story).
6biblioholic29
Grrrr...the picture thing is not working!
7biblioholic29
8biblioholic29
Help! It's only doing links and I'm trying to have a picture actually show up.
10biblioholic29
Here are some Easter Lillies
11biblioholic29
How did you do that?
14biblioholic29
is it showing up? why doesn't it like me?
15biblioholic29
I just figured it out I think! Lets see
16biblioholic29
Yes!!!! LOL, I was switching it and writing scr instead of src.

I'm going to put in a link...

23ChelseaB-ley
IMG stands for image, right?
27jugglingpaynes
That looks fine Ms_B! Just remove the spaces and replace the underline with a space.
30MrsGrinch
I just go on photo bucket it is easy there because you just copy and past one of the links. You dont have to add anything.
31jugglingpaynes
You have the page URL there Bella. The image URL usually ends in jpg.
41Jenson_AKA_DL
Love the kitties!! So cute :-)
46MDLady
Does the code for bold work in the profile as well as the messages? I can't seem to get it to work for mine.
48jugglingpaynes
#46 I don't think the HTML codes will work in profile messages at all. I've tried but it doesn't seem to show up.
50ChelseaB-ley
#49 I've tried it and they don't work. But I wish they did.
52ChelseaB-ley
#51 I've actually gotten the italics to work but underlining didn't work. So I'm not sure. (I pretty much posted because I was trying to take down rissa's wall)
53biblioholic29
If you look, they do tell you right above the comment box what will work.
54MellieT
I have just mastered the italics and such but i can not seem to master the pictures i keep forgetting the code!
59biblioholic29
make sure you put except remove all the spaces and put a space where the underscore is.
61DanoWins
Hey, I did it! Thanks for the help biblioholic29. I was using the url at the site rather than the address of the picture.
62compskibook
book 'em Dano. I mean, nice work Dano.
I bet you have never heard that one before ;)

64DanoWins
Now it worked, but I don't know what I changed. I just retyped the whole thing, and it worked.
65compskibook
When I started doing pictures I would type src as scr. I also always double check that I have both quotation marks.
Cute cats. Are they yours?
Cute cats. Are they yours?
66DanoWins
Yes. the boys are mine. The first is Obi-wan. He's grown up since that picture. He's now a much larger, much lazier version of that cute kitten. The other is Napoleon. He's a very regal feline (at least he thinks so).
68DanoWins
Thank you, catbastet. Napoleon thanks you as well. Obi-wan would, but he doesn't speak English :)
70DanoWins
With all these compliments, my cats are starting to puff up with pride. I'm not sure my house can hold such inflated egos!
72jugglingpaynes
They are very cute Dano. Does Obi-wan use a lot of Jedi mind tricks on you?
73DanoWins
catbastet, not a bad plan :)
jugglingpaynes, no, Obi is, how shall I put this? He's a bit slow. I didn't know that when I got him, or he wouldn't have ended up with a jedi name :) I would have kept his name to one syllable so it wouldn't be to hard for him to understand.

74catbastet
Too bad. I could so imagine a conversation like this:
You want to give Obi-wan food.
I want to give Obi-wan food.
You want to give Obi-wan your bed.
I want to give Obi-wan my bed.
You want to give Obi-wan a tummy rub.

Got another question for you experts on doing smooth stuff in your posts.
If " actual photo " > is used for photos in posts, what is: link to photo used for?
If " actual photo " > is used for photos in posts, what is: link to photo used for?
76DanoWins
catbastet, LOL. That's good stuff. But, I do that for him anyway. He doesn't need mind tricks to work on my sympathies.
77jugglingpaynes
That is when you want to link us to something cool you found, like a website or video, or photos that can't be viewed on the discussion board for whatever reason.

jugglingpaynes, where: "link to photo" would be replaced by? the url? and the img one is only for photos?
79jugglingpaynes
It should read: name of link
80DanoWins
Ah, that makes more sense to me. I thought, "what's the point of two confusing methods to add a photo to a post?"
You tech-savvy folks are so helpful! I'd still be trying to figure out how to turn on my computer if it wasn't for people who are good at this stuff.

I am a big believer in jumping in and hoping I figure out what I'm doing. Everything I can do I have learned through many mistakes and copious note-taking. ;o)

That's exactly how I learn too! Notes, patience and trial and error! I've starred this thread so that I'll have it handy, and I've scribbled all the codes down so I can tape it to my desk.
85MrAndrew
You can have any colour you like. So long as it's black.
Or, you can cheat - so long as you are prepared to put the effort into it. F'example:

K, i just noticed that the command to resize pictures is not here, do you want to edit the OP to include it? It's:
I find that height="300" works pretty well, eg:
Hey, what's the command to insert spaces again?

It can be done some places online, but it doesn't work on LT. I just learned the codes recently and attempted it on LT last week, I think.
Blogger accepts the following colors:
This would be in red.
This would be in green.
This would be in yellow.
This would be in blue.
This would be in purple.
This would be in orange.
This would be in brown.
How to Change Font Styles, which works on some parts of Blogger:
This would be in Sybil Green.
This would be in Minya Nouvelle.
This would be in Teen Light.
This would be in French Script MT.
Remove all spaces. Enter a space in place of underscores. (_)
Edited to correct codes which got erased when this was posed

Look now. Sorry! That was almost teasing. ;) LT ate the codes because I didn't put spaces between everything.
I did something weird to my computer then, too. The font is incredibly tiny. I can hardly see it!! I'm going to close my tab and open a new one, but we should seriously consider posting the codes for making font and screen sizes smaller and larger. ;) I think compski knows the codes.

So this is supposed to indent text.
Does this indent it further?
And will the next one be invisible?
Too soon to tell?
And so it did indent.
And the next one did not further.
The one after only maybe invisible...
No longer too soon to tell but for this post edit.
(Instructions in post #115 on the Okay, explain! thread.)
120biblioholic29
The first one shouldn't have a backslash, so it should be you word except without any of the spaces. Keep trying, you'll get it.
124biblioholic29
Congrats!
125dixiekoala2010
okay i got the whole bold thingy lets see if i can get a pic
126dixiekoala2010
YAY ME!!!! it's a koala bear
130jugglingpaynes
Is this the same neighbor that was making all the noise? It figures.
131MrAndrew
yup. Darn rowdy koalas. I wish we had moved into a place next to a family of bandicoots instead. Quiet, peace-loving animals, bandicoots.
132jugglingpaynes
My husband asks if bandicoots climb into your trash like raccoons. That's what our neighbors have been doing. Late night parties in the neighbor's driveway.
133MrAndrew
Your neighbours climb into your trash?
No, bandicoots are much better behaved than that. That's why they don't have to wear little black masks for disguise.

Frankly the skunks make very good neighbors. They are quiet, go about their business. If only they didn't scare so easily...
137dixiekoala2010
#131- i am not a rowdy koala i am peaceful and fun loving

see i am stealing water from some bikers

People like to take advantage of cute things/people so we need some way to protect ourselves i will be nice if you hug me 0 8)
144MsDonna
Koalas do get hammered when they eat too many eucalyptus leaves. They are very snuggly to cuddle though.
145dixiekoala2010
i am not fictional i am real Mr.A and i don't exactly know were the koala thing came from i plan on goin to school for marine biology i wanna work with dolphins and whales not koalas but my backup is zoology so maybe that works for the koala thing so the koala part may or may not be fictional i have long nails(claws) sharp teeth and i am cute but i am blonde not gray and i am 5ft 11in and i disappear if i turn sideways but i think i would cry if i saw a koala in the zoo that big/tall

I don't usually use Flickr, so I can't say of that's it, though. And when I look at the page source for that post, it looks like you are putting an anchor (a href) tag inside an image (img src) tag.
