In this book, there is a scene where a child (and possibly a friend?) learn how to make a camera. She eventually befriends her neighbor who happens to be a photographer and he gives her one of his old cameras. She eventually becomes a photographer, or very interested in photography

Do you have any more details about the book? When did you read it? Was it meant for children or adults?

One of the characters in Little Fires Everywhere is a photographer who learns from a neighbor who gives her a camera, but I don't think she made a camera herself.
