When this was reported in 2017, it was not convincing, but not able to be debunked either. A year later, not much movement:

Maybe it’s the ocean air. Seems San Diegans are drawn to controversial dating of human presence. Decades ago, Jeffrey Bada of Scripps Institute of Oceanography realized amino acid racemization could be used to date fossils when sample size constraints preclude the C-14 method. With his technique he dated some local human fossils to as old as 48,000 years.
