Add books failing

I was adding books, and then it just stopped responding.

So I did a test. I searched Catcher, Salinger at Overcat, LoC. Nada.

It was working an hour ago.

Huh. I would have assumed that was resolved by now since I was adding books just fine all day today. (Plus it was far enough down the list I didn't notice it!).

Oh, it's a chronically repeating problem. Or so it seems. Should solve itself in a few hours, by past experience. But annoying.

Ah, now I see Amazon works but nothing else, as pointed out elsewhere. I must have been doing my adding this week during the good spells because I hadn't seen the recent manifestation.

Sorry for the trouble, folks. Confirmed that everything should be running smoothly again. We had a high queue for Add Books around this time last night. I'm not sure yet why/if it would have affected only library sources and not Amazon. When you say it just stopped responding, do you mean that it didn't throw up any error message? Even though all is working well now, I want to make sure we've got a good handle on what happened.

The searches on library sources all failed. As if the sources themselves were broken.

Yes, only Amazon appears to work. Overcat and libraries take a long time to respond and then say only "The search has failed". Both ISBN and word searches.

Same as before, I think. I see a conspicuous spike in database connections around the time of the report. Lasted about 2 hours. We're looking into why this keeps happening.

Again. Some source fail. Amazon finds the book but when I click to add I get a Gateway Timeout.

Ayep. More of the usual.

Oh, I forgot to add, later in the evening it came back.

Stopped again, halfway through an upload (27 out of the 51 books I had in my import file made it in. No ISBN for any of them so it won't have been a source-specific issue.) No "import complete" message, nothing odd about title #28 that would cause it to fail.

I should add that this was my short fiction account (lorax_short), which is why lorannen won't see any upload files for me.

Getting a result on Amazon.com, but it's not adding the book. Getting "504 Gateway Time-out".

Can you give me an Amazon book that's failing? Or anything really. I'm having no trouble at all adding books.

This is odd.

My previous post refers to an attempt to add Cold for the Bastards of Pizzofalcone. I got a hit only on Amazon.com. When I clicked to add, I got the "504 Gateway Time-out" message, so I did a manual add.

But the book is now showing twice in my catalogue. (I'm leaving them both for the moment, rather than deleting the extraneous listing, in case that helps figure things out.)

Yeah, now that I look at my Add Books page I see this book All Fools, isbn 9780719089251 is added four times -- twice each from Amazon.com All Media and Bowker Books in Print, though at the time I appeared to achieve no adds at all. Those are the places where I got gateways timeouts. I also tried Folger Shakespeare Library and (probably) Overcat and few others but got Search Failed there.

This shouldn't be showing closed.

Added https://www.librarything.com/work/189473/book/172274235 just fine. Came back about 7:45 Pacific time and failed with OverCat on ISBN: 0826452094. Through WorldCat found it at University of Oregon, and that also failed. But if it's like previous times, when I come back the UofO entry will likely be in Overcat as though it found it.

Adding: LC comes up with "we know LC is having problems" and Amazon comes up fine, except that I don't want that record.
