humouress tries setting ROOTs for 2019

Hi, I'm Nina. I've been doing the 75 book challenge for about 10 years - and have never reached the goal yet. Since I usually read my own books, I'm going to give ROOTs a go.

As of the end of August I've read 26 books for the year, the majority of which (will come back with the number; 23) are my own books. At that rate, I should finish 30 of my own books this year. I'm hoping my reading rate will pick up (I've had 3 barren months this year so far) but I foresee that life in November and December will be busy, what with exams, my kids' birthdays and parties and holiday travelling.

I'm going to count any book I read from my own shelves/ Kindle as a ROOT although I'm not planning on moving any on. I did do a cull a few months ago and managed less than 10; I will need another decade or so to recover from that trauma.

Wow, Nice! Welcome to the ROOTers, Nina.

The only thing you have to do now is copy your ticker to the ticker thread and become a member or the group!

>6 connie53: Thank you Connie! I'm still sorting out my tickers; I usually find that after I update them, it takes a while for the update to kick in on LT. Once they do, I'll put them on the main thread. Thanks for the heads up.

>7 Jackie_K: Thank you Jackie! I'm sure I will; I've certainly received a warm welcome here.

>8 MissWatson: Thank you Birgit! It was just a case of transferring my 75 info over and teasing out the ROOTs. I mean, thank you, it was such hard work.

>9 rabbitprincess: Thank you!

>10 curioussquared: Thanks Natalie!

>11 fuzzi: Thanks fuzzi! Welcome over.

>12 humouress: You have to refresh of push F5 to get the ticker to update.

14humouress
Sep 8, 2019, 9:34 am

>13 connie53: I've been using Ticker Factory for years and (though I've never tried F5) I've always found it takes a few hours for changes to kick in onto LT even if I refresh or go out of the thread and come back in a few minutes.

I've managed to sort out my tickers; I thought I was creating new ones but it seems I was just overwriting existing ones and ended up posting the same on three times. I've now created new ones and the changes have started filtering through onto LT, so I'll take them over to the main ticker thread.

Sep 8, 2019, 1:01 pm

>14 humouress: same issues with overwriting and updating here. If there isn't a quick "how to" for tickers, there should be one created and posted here on LT.

16humouress

>15 fuzzi: Well, I can't write it; I just muck around until it looks okay.

So I've added my ticker to the ticker thread, but do I add my numbers to the September tickers? And just September numbers (I still haven't fully updated my stats for August)?

17fuzzi
Sep 11, 2019, 7:01 am

I update my ticker as I read, but I also will edit the ticker as needed. At this time I can't figure out one of the books I'd recorded as a completed ROOT...apparently I neglected to post it in a thread...so my ROOT total might be off by one.

18connie53
Sep 11, 2019, 9:02 am

The tickers in the September thread represent all the books read by the group in the months before September. IF you joined the group and are a member, Chèli will add your goal to the group goal. All you have to do is keep your own ticker up to date. Adding your read books for the year to the group tickers is optional. Some ROOTers don't and some do. I always add my read ROOTs to the group tickers as well just to save Chèli some work.

>17 fuzzi: >18 connie53: Thanks.

I'm being a bit quiet on the posting front, though I'm managing to get a bit of reading done. I think Life is about to step it up a gear so I maybe AWOL for a while.
