It would be nice if there was an ability to assign covers to be the official cover for different series. I imagine this would mostly affect publisher series, but perhaps some natural series would benefit as well.

As it stands, when you bring up a publisher series, the covers are usually not actually of that series - but it would be nice if they were.

I'm afraid this has been asked for before, but failed on the grounds that the same title in a series or a publisher's series can have more than one cover.

I don't think that should be a fatal objection. You could have a default preference (1st edition cover, maybe?) or even lacking such a preference, you'd still wind up with a selection of covers from the publisher showing up on the publisher series page, which would be interesting in itself.

For publisher series, I doubt there's going to be warring members fighting over the "right" cover. Not sure I see the downside being a plausible outcome here.

The default to the most popular cover for a work title rather than my copy or the copy in a series or publisher series is one of the disappointing parts of LibraryThing. It would be nice to be able to visit an author page or a series page and see my copies.

One way this manifests itself is when ultra-generic covers for books that happen to exist as old public-domain electronic texts becomes the "winning" cover. I collect real books and catalog them. Though I have many e-book files, I don't catalog them.
