Seasoned greetings everyone!
Not much activity here, which is such a shame.
So here to revive this wonderful topic, I recently picked up the Folio Society’s The Shorter Oxford English Dictionary on eBay for £25. It was irresistible and I just had to have it.

Sometime ago I got rid of my print copy (not Folio) and kept my version on CD downloaded to PC. A great resource though only "shorter" in comparison to the OED itself. But these 'monster' reference volumes are doomed to distinction. As an indexer in the distant past I had a print copy of Burke's Peerage but as the web became more of a reality I later found myself relying more and more on the internet. My current bugbear is Liddell and Hart's Greek lexicon which is quite difficult for my occassional use. A digital version would be marvellous.

Nice catch Fasel.

Doomed to cult status perhaps.
Do you mean Liddell & Scott? I would not part with it.

>3 LesMiserables:: "Do you mean Liddell & Scott?" Yes I did. Don't where the Hart came from. And "extinction" rather than "distinction".

4. Thought so.
I also have my Glare and my Gildersleeve for my Latin. Indispensable.

>2 PossMan: I wholeheartedly agree with you with “distinction” (enlightened affirmation and sigh of relief emoji expression before realising that you meant extinction).
I’m partial to physical tomes I can touch. I have a vivid memory and remember things better than reading digitally or online.
I have Liddell & Scott on my wish list.
