An interesting year. I know Robert James Waller gets a lot of dings for being sacharine, but I enjoyed The Bridges of Madison County. Unfortunately, some of them have since been burned down by arsonists because of the attention. Lasher finally burned me out on Anne Rice and I don't think I can ever pick up anything of hers again. I also enjoyed Like Water for Chocolate. I found Ageless Body, Timeless Mind at a friends of the library sale, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I went on a Susan Powter kick back in the day, also to no avail. I tried Women Who Run with the Wolves and got so bored I couldn't finish it. All I got from Men are from Mars, Women Are from Venus is that if men go into their caves, leave them alone and if they don't get enough sex they think you don't love them, also that they don't understand anything about women and to give up trying to educate them because they're not listening anyway.

#1 Varielle ~ You're so right; it was a very interesting year.

All I got from Men are from Mars is that if men go into their caves, leave them alone and if they don't get enough sex they think you don't love them...

Hee hee! That's exactly what I remember about that one.

I wasn't thrilled with Lasher either, but it didn't put me off Rice. I also tried to read Women Who Run With Wolves but didn't get very far before I lost interest. I still mean to read Like Water For Chocolate someday.

Read and own the Turow and the King and strangely, the Stern. That's all. The whole Bridges from Madison County almost made me run for the frigging hills with everyone trying to foist it on me. Bah.

This is the year I graduated high school (I'm getting so old). I know I've read one Clancy book, and I think it may have been Without Remorse, but for the life of me I can't remember. It's been bugging me lately....

My wife certainly has read Like Water for Chocolate and Bridges of Madison County. I looked through the former.

She has also read on the non-fiction side:
Embraced by the Light - I also read
Women Who Run with the Wolves - she was part of a discussion group on this one.
Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus
The Hidden Life of Dogs

I've read Like water for chocolate, which I really enjoyed, Bridges of Madison County, which was OK, but I had no desire to revisit it, and pieces of the Mars/Venus book.
