I'm in too.
>2 torontoc: Is that the Ninth Street book by Mary Garbriel? (noticed you were reading that last week) - is it interesting? I've read an excellent book by Mary Gabriel on the Marx family, and have her book about US suffrage campaigner Victoria Woodhull on my Kindlle.

I'm in.
finished Moon at Nine by Deborah Ellis. (Gay teens in Iran)
Now reading Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells.
My sister and her husband will be back this weekend - both checking on the elderly moms - but I always find time to read.

I'm along for the ride, too Silver.
Already read two books on 3 June 2021 which I guess I cannot count, but my weekend will start in a few more hours and I will be off and running again.

>3 elkiedee: Yes! It is a very big book- 800 plus pages!( over 900 with notes) Ninth Street Women Lee Krasner, Elaine de Kooning, Grace Hartigan, Joan Mitchell, and Helen Frankenthaler: Five Painters and the Movement That Changed Modern Art by Mary Gabriel I am enjoying this read.

I'm in. They've just lifted some of the restrictions in my province so I may have to spend Saturday buying plants but otherwise reading is on the agenda.

I'm in again as well! I am making great headway on Sacred Treasure--The Cairo Genizah. Once I finish it, I'll move on to Bonecrack, unless my OverDrive hold on Black Diamond becomes available.

This time I really HAVE to work as well as read, since I lost most of this week to migraines. Yuck.
Also, still waiting for my first pair of glasses, so reading "real" books is going to be very limited.
That said, I'm listening to a fascinating audiobook about the collapse of the Tay Bridge, as well as Juliet Stevenson narrating Mansfield Park. I'm also using my screen time to finish reading In The Shadow of the Empress by Nancy goldstone, about Maria Theresa and her daughters. (only available for NetGalley Shelf, on mobile devices or my laptop.)

I will be joining in again this week. I will be traveling back to Alabama so will be doing a marathon listening to audiobooks.

Friday night check in
Books read from: Singing Whales and Flying Squid by Richard Ellis for the Nonfiction challenge here on LT. I have a good start Fordlandia: The Rise and Fall of Henry Ford's Forgotten Jungle City by Greg Grandin. I started listening to book 4 in the Girl of Fire and Thorns series last weekend and hope to finish it tomorrow; Empire of Dreams by Rae Carson. I will be posting from various sites along the trip back to Alabama this weekend.
Books finished This Weekend: 0
Time reading today: so far 0
Time posting: 30 minutes
Food: Fatoush salad
Thoughts: It is summer on the plains. Last weekend it was so cold I thought I needed my winter coat and today it was in the lower 90's F. I was packing my car for the trip back and was sweating so badly my glasses kept falling off my nose.
Non-book activities: I spent most of the day taking my mother to various doctors consultations. That was not fun. She is doing quite well and she thinks she is much sicker than she is. Her basic problem is a lack of exercise. Both the Doctor and the Physical Therapist told her the same thing and she doesn't believe them.
Total books finished since the read-a-thon began: 130
Total read from: 138
Total time reading since the Social Distancing read-a-thon began: 380.5 hours since April 2020.

Late late Friday night (Sat morning)
Book - Enjoying the first Murderbot book, All Systems Red.
Dinner was half a deli sandwich and a banana blueberry smoothie.
Other activity - got caught up in genealogy searching. It's fascinating!
That's why I'm up so late.

It's about 1:30 a.m. in Rhode Island, and I have my AC going for the first time this summer. What a change from last weekend.
Books read from: The High Girders: Tay Bridge Disaster 1879 by John Prebble, The Bombay Prince by Sujata Massey (both audiobooks), In the Shadow of the Empress by Nancy Goldstone
Books finished: 1, the book about the Tay Bridge railway disaster, which was fascinating mostly because I knew so little about it, rather than the book itself being amazing.
Time reading: 3.5 hours
Food: Caesar salad
Thoughts: What a horrible, difficult week this has been. STILL waiting for my glasses. At least we signed a new client but that means I can't afford any more migraines.
Non-book activities: Tripped over my own two feet and came very close to knocking myself unconscious. My left knee is swollen and turning interesting colors. This will force me to stay close to home and get some work done, I suppose?

Not a lot of reading happening yet today. This was the first Saturday for our local farmer's market. I went first thing this morning and came home with kale, sugar snap peas, rhubarb, Lavaca berries (cross between blackberries Y boysenberries), Italian herb bread, a cinnamon roll (breakfast!), mint chocolate chip cookies (made with mint from the baker's garden), mild sausage, and honey. I did the rest of my grocery shopping, then went to a produce store to get strawberries to make strawberry rhubarb compote. I've been cooking and prepping dinner this afternoon. I invited a friend to join me. We'll be having baked fish, kale, peas & carrots, and fresh bread, with berries for dessert.

Never heard of Lavaca berries? I hadn't either. The woman selling them says that the cutting came from Lavaca, Arkansas, so she calls them Lavaca berries. It's a cross between blackberries and boysenberries.

Books read from since last update: The Bombay Prince by Sujata Massey, In the Shadow of the Empress by Nancy Goldstone, The Noose's Shadow by Graham Brack
Books finished: Nancy Goldstone's bio of Maria Theresa of Austria and her daughters (incl. Marie Antoinette). Good reading.
Time reading: 5 hours
Food: Some ham sandwiches for lunch; a chicken curry (frozen dinner, sigh) for a late evening meal
Thoughts: I wish I had a house elf.
Non-book activities: Finally got some work done. I'm nearly finished drafting the introductory chapter to the book we're ghost-writing -- hurrah. The tough part of the chapter is over, so it's just discipline now. I'm going to try to make a start on chapter I before I head for bed.

Several episodes of Mad Men on Amazon Prime. It's taken me years to start watching this series, and months to get to the end of series 1. Hoping it stays available on Prime for long enough to catch up with the other 6 series!
Small family picnic in the park on Saturday afternoon - Had the chance to meet up with one of my sisters, her husband and kids, who we'd not seen in person probably since some time in 2019.

Sunday noon check-in
Books read from: Singing Whales and Flying Squid by Richard Ellis for the Nonfiction challenge here on LT. I have a good start Fordlandia: The Rise and Fall of Henry Ford's Forgotten Jungle City by Greg Grandin. I started listening to book 4 in the Girl of Fire and Thorns series last weekend and hope to finish it tomorrow. It is Empire of Dreams by Rae Carson. I Am posting from various sites along the trip back to Alabama this weekend. Right now I am in the Starbucks in Hopkinsville Kentucky.
Books finished This Weekend: 0
Time reading today: so far 30 minutes
Time posting: 30 minutes
Food: Big breakfast at friends house this morning.
Thoughts: I am on my migration back to Alabama and am contentedly listening to books in the car. The current book is number 4 in a series and I am thinking that I should have listened to it sooner because I am having a hard time remembering the details of the previous books in the series. Driving from here on will be easy because it is all Interstate highway. I love this long distance driving since I discovered recorded books!
Non-book activities:
Total books finished since the read-a-thon began: 130
Total read from: 138
Total time reading since the Social Distancing read-a-thon began: 380.5 hours since April 2020.

It's nearly 5 p.m. in Rhode Island and the temperatures have topped 90 degrees F; it's about 34 degrees C. In other words, hot. I'm managing to keep it cool indoors by keeping the solitary A/C running non-stop.
Books read from since last update: The Bombay Prince by Sujata Massey, The Noose's Shadow by Graham Brack, Mantel Pieces by Hilary Mantel, and Our Woman in Moscow by Beatriz Williams.
Books finished: Wrapped up the last few essays in the Mantel anthology, some of which were brilliant (especially the one on "Royal Bodies"...) Finished The Noose's Shadow, #4 in a mystery series set in 17th century Netherlands. A bit predictable, with the "hero" (a Calvinist minister who teaches theology at Leiden but who also is an undercover Catholic priest) always meeting women who tempt him to abandon his secret Catholic vows and marry. Sigh. There's formula and then there's let's bash the reader over the head with these facts for the 27th time.
Time reading: 6 hours
Food: More sandwiches. It's really too hot to eat much.
Thoughts: Must work; must do more work.
Non-book activities: Finished the introductory chapter of the book we're ghosting; then launched into chapter 1 last night. Today's goal is to finish chapter 1 and make some headway on #2. Doing laundry as well.

sunday evening -
watching it rain on the patio and garden as I sit and read in the sun room. Brown bunnies in the yard. Found a nest of wrens in my hanging begonia basket this morning when I tried to water it .
Books:
Finished All Systems Red, Martha Wells. :)
Starting No Safe Place by Deborah Ellis, about illegal teenage migrants from the Middle East.
Dinner: sushi appetizer and husband's great seafood chowder.
Other activity:
My sister here for a couple days and then I'm going home with her.
Still working on family genealogy. Found a Scottish earl, a Native American many-great grandmother, and a Virginia colonist who was hung for stealing tobacco. (All of this needs more verification!)

>22 Chatterbox:
The Nancy Goldstone book on Maria Theresa and her daughters sounds interesting. I think that Maria Theresa was probably one of the most underestimated monarchs of the 18th Century. I read 2 of her previous books and found them to be very readable and informative. They are also short and so are not as intimidating as many other historical works. I think their length is due to the dearth of information available on many important women throughout history.

Sunday night check-in
Books read from: Singing Whales and Flying Squid by Richard Ellis for the Nonfiction challenge here on LT. I have a good start Fordlandia: The Rise and Fall of Henry Ford's Forgotten Jungle City by Greg Grandin. I finished listening to book 4 in the Girl of Fire and Thorns series last weekend and hope to finish it tomorrow. It is Empire of Dreams by Rae Carson. I started listening to Vincent and Theo: The Van Gogh Brothers by Deborah Heiligman.
Books finished This Weekend: 1 - Empire of Dreams by Rae Carson
Time reading today: so far 30 minutes
Time posting: 1.5 hours
Food: supper was 2 soft tacos from Taco Casa - a homegrown Taco chain that is close to my house.
Thoughts: It rained on me all the way from Hopkinsville, Kentucky to Tuscaloosa, Alabama and then when I got into my driveway, the pouring rain trickled to a few drips, which made getting my suitcase out of the car easy. I am liking the narrator of the Vincent and Theo book. He is very good. This book was an award winning YA nonfiction book that Joe (the 75'er Joe) read and liked. He highly recommended it a few years back. This book was on my TBR list since it was a Prinz Honor Award book from the American Library Association. It is rare that a work of nonfiction appears on these lists so it made me take notice. I think this is going to be a good work of nonfiction to listen to as well as read.
Non-book activities:
Total books finished since the read-a-thon began: 131
Total read from: 139
Total time reading since the Social Distancing read-a-thon began: 381hours since April 2020.
