Found: Scifi/Adventure; End of the world game, Alien Overlords, Treasure hunt.

Definitely a non-fiction book. Read it about 1-2 years ago I believe. Was a YA novel, had a ring of some sort? (not positive) on cover. It was a large book, probably about 600+ pages, normal hardcover harry potter size with small font. Basic plot is, when humanity was created there were 8(?) tribes. Each tribe/family had to always have a family member between.. 12 and 18? That could participate in the "games"(losers would have all their relatives, their "clan" killed). "Main character" (Switched viewpoints every chapter or two) was female, 16 ish. Her brother was the tribute but he got stung in the eye by a bee during a trial to prove he was up to the challenge. Meteor lands at the soccer(?) game she was at and her brother gets killed, but she finds a Necklce(some form of artifact or something) that matches something related to the games. Her boyfriend is very freaked out (chris maybe? something like that for name) but she leaves and goes to japan, or somewhere near there (I think).

Some of the other people I remember are; Female, korean/japanese that took a vow of silence. Female, American/arab(?) that was good at karate. Male (oriental I believe?) Who was good at hacking and making bombs but had Tourette's or something like that. Anyway, they go to the meeting place where they meet the alien people. Alien people tell them that there are 3(i think) things they have to get. Gives a clue to first one. Everyone leaves with a copy, 3 or 4 people get killed outside the place. A male character (name starts with j?) Gets hit in the shoulder/back with an arrow/dart that has a tracker. He teams up with the main character, and they go off looking for clues. They go to the terracotta army? The boyfriend decides to go looking for main character, gets on a plane and meets another contestant. She kills an air marshal and lands the plane in the ocean, then she and the bf are on a raft? The first prize is at stonehenge, the girl who took the vow of silence dies I think, the boyfriend gets shot by the main character, and we learn that the second clue is inside one persons young child.

Tl;DR. End of the world where people hunt for 3 treasures to save their clan/tribe.
