Found: Island of blue dolphins read alike

Was there a Jfic book around in the 90s that was a lot like the Island of Blue Dolphins, but NOT IoBD?
I remember a young girl trapped or living on an island with a dog companion and shelter she made out of bones (whale bones probably?)
It's been so long I'm probably just misremembering IoBD, but just in case there actually was a really close read alike, I thought I throw this out there.

It's not a dog and not on an island, but Julie of the Wolves by Jean Craighead George was often recommended as a read-alike for IotBD.

I think you're definitely thinking of Island of the Blue Dolphins. She was alone on the island with just the dog, and built an enclosure out of whale ribs to keep animals from stealing her food.
