Hello!
I read this book in the early 1980s.
It tells about the life of prehistoric women from their point of view, the whole book is written with the pronouns "she" and "her".
It seems to me that the format was quite small, more like a paperback.
It's not a novel, it's between "fiction" and "non-fiction", it's based on scientific facts and told as a (pre)historical account.

(Sorry, I used a machine translation and I'm not sure of its accuracy)

If it was from their point of view wouldn't it use I?

The author tells the prehistoric women's story so it is "she". English is not my first language, I try to explain as I can.

>4 vorkosigan: Thanks. No, it is not. The book I'm searching for was first published in English and was more "historical".

>5 Petroglyph: Thanks. No, it is not. I read the book in the early '80s and Clan of the Cave Bear was first published in the '90s.

>7 Louve_de_mer: actually the book was published in 1980 and the movie came out in 1986.

Maybe check out The First North Americans series?

>8 Darth-Heather:
I think Louve_de_mer accidentally put the wrong title there -- my suggestion in #5 was published in 1996.

@Louve_de_mer: here is a list of books that have been tagged with prehistory, women, fiction.

>9 Petroglyph: Thanks a lot! It should be The Descent of Woman. I will investigate further to find out more about this book. I remember that I read The Aquatic Ape Hypothesis from this author.
