I can’t remember many details but a teenage girl snuck onto an old sailing ship, a huge one that would stay at sea for weeks or months. I think she did it by disguising herself as a boy and becoming a lowly crewman. She becomes very skilled and loves her time there. I don’t remember her name but I keep thinking Emily or Charlotte but I honestly can’t remember. I don’t think there was any magic or fantasy elements, just a girl on ship she shouldn’t have been on. I think 1800s time period. I can’t remember if the crew finds out she’s a girl but I thiiink they did and just accepted her….. I read it probably in middle school or even elementary school so 1994-1998 time period if that makes a difference on what books may have been popular at the time. It’s been bugging me for years that I can’t remember this book…

Edit: oh my god it came back to me just after I typed this out.
