It's definitely out of print now. The cover was yellow with a short man with a cane on it (I believe a reference to one of the stories - see below). The title was something like "The Short Shorts" (not Short Shorts, this book was found in a used book store in the 70s and that is from the 80s), but I've searched and nothing came up. It was a collection of popular stories at the time from various authors. A lot of the stories ended up being turned into Twilight Zone episodes, so you might recognize the synopsis.
Stories included:
A futuristic (at the time, I believe it was written in the 40s or early 50s) story about a young girl in the 2000s talking to her robot teacher about not wanting to do school.
A shipwrecked magician (he was on a big ship performing when the ship sunk) talks to his parrot and argues with it. A mostly humorous story, but the magician realizes his parrot was the one who called "fire" and ended in the ship being sunk (? I think I might be mixing two stories together).
A pilot believes he's the last man on earth after flying around the world and finding no one anywhere. He commits suicide and as he's dying he hears the phone ring.
A man keeps shortening the walking stick of his enemy and drives the person crazy thinking he's getting taller.
There were between 40-70 stories, each between 1-5 pages about.
Thanks for reading!
