Can't remember a thing about the title or author, but its a book I read somewhere in the range of 2008-2010 i believe. I remember finding it in the YA section.
The book i think is written in the first person from the perspective of a young man (somewhere between 12-16 if i can recall). It starts with him telling the reader who he is and about his life. I forget what exactly he says, but after several pages of explaining his situation, the chapter abruptly ends with him saying something like "actually all that was a lie. none of it is true." and much of the book carries on in this fashion. You mostly learn that he's your average suburban teen attending school and doing his homework, but his father is abusive and he dreams of running away. if i recall correctly, at one point there is a long passage where the narrator actually describes packing up and getting on a train and running away, only for the passage to end once again with "but all that was a lie. I didnt actually do that. im still at home in my room staring out the window at the tree in my back yard" and the whole book is full of fakeouts like that. and then at the very end i have this vivid picture in my mind of a violent confrontation with his father in the middle of winter while there's snow on the ground and the police arrest his father for his abuse and that's the end of it.
the cover of the book i remember being black with either chicken scratch writing layered all over it or just scribbles
thanks for any help
