Crime/thriller woman wrongly jailed for killing mother

I must have read this sometime in the 1980s and I think it was set in the US. A young woman returns home after serving a jail sentence for her mother’s murder. I remember a sewing room, a mirror and some scissors, and I think the real murderer was a sister or an aunt.

@GraceCollection that’s much too recent but the plot sounds uncannily similar! The book I’m looking for can’t have been written later than the 1980s but could be much earlier.
