When regarding the statements that the outbreaks are "largely among men who have sex with men who had reported having sex recently with new or multiple partners", keep in mind that expectations of who has the disease affects who's tested and treated. This summer, I've seen non-men who have not been no new partners (or no partners ever) exhibit symptoms, but there was no testing available.
At least in the USA, authorities administering the limited monkeypox vaccines are currently prioritizing men who have sex with men in metro areas. But anyone can get monkeypox, which is spread by close or intimate contact that might include sharing droplets from breathing. (Sound familiar?)
I've also seen misinformation about what monkeypox is: measles, chickenpox, smallpox, just a rash, a government conspiracy, a consequence of gayness, or an African problem. (Again, the truth is that anyone can be infected.) Facts: The disease is actually from a virus related to smallpox. Not all symptoms and side effects of infection are visible, with internal tumors being reported. The virus has been around for a while, mostly on the African continent, but it's now causing outbreaks around the world.
According to the World Health Organization, mmore than 14,000 monkeypox cases have now been detected across the globe in more than 70 countries and territories this year.

Monkeypox cases in the USA has surpassed 10,000 after the Center for Diseass Control (CDC) added almost 900 new cases in the last 24 hours. Thirty days ago, the country had only 767 cases.
Yet there have been no confirmed deaths from monkeypox in the USA?
Eighty countries where monkeypox is not endemic have now reported outbreaks of the viral disease as over 31,400 cases worldwide have been confirmed. The death rate appears to be very low.
The potential for long-term consequences of infection in the new populations is unknown at this time.
