Not sure that I'll have any completions over the weekend, but I'll make some progress in some non-fiction as well as an audiobook. If I finish a book, it may be one I haven't started yet. It came in through the library from an Overdrive/Libby recommendation. I don't have lots more days to finish it. I'll decide whether or not I am still interested and decide how much time I want to invest either tonight or tomorrow. Otherwise, you'll see me post some I'm reading a chapter or two at a time plus the usual devotional stuff.

I am in again. Hopefully I can put some of the distractions aside and work on getting my August TIOLI books completed.

I'm in.
I'll be reading, maybe some cooking and baking, and tidying before my sister comes on Sunday to stay a couple nights.

I'm in. I'll try again after a few weeks away. I've been reading (though nowhere near as much as July when I finished 27 books!). I may even finish something this weekend, which is needed as I have so many exciting library books and others to read, including books by some favourite authors, shiny recent publications that sounded irresistible, and recent discoveries (I particularly overlooked some of the stuff published during lockdowns etc). And it's Bank Holiday Monday in the UK if anyone is free to try and celebrate with me (doesn't matter where you are if you have the time!).
I will keep a note of reading from now, as I'm soon going to go on a library expedition, but hoping to fit in a look round a couple of charity shops en route too. My teenage son had to help me cart back a massive haul from the Oxfam bookshop in Deal, the Kent seaside town where we had a little holiday with my aunt, and I'm being very slow to catalogue my new acquisitions on LT.

Count me in! Most of my reading will be tonight and Sunday. Trying to finish at least one more TIOLI read.

27 books in July! Holy moley, you're a machine!
11elkiedee
>10 Deedledee: Not really. It's the kind of rate I read at a few years ago, but I'm not sure when I slept (that may have been part of the problem - it was a difficult period of my life and I think I was escaping!) But I'm not sure what happened in July! Anything from 5-15 has been "normal" in recent years, and at the beginning of lockdown, I hardly finished anything for SIX MONTHS!

I am in as well. I plan a quiet weekend of recovery with one side trip with friends, so should have time to finish reading a couple of those Kansas Author Contest books.

I 'm in. I am reading slowly since the beginning of the pandemic but I am enjoying what I read.

I too am impressed by 27 books in a month! Congratulations. I thought I was having a good show in Aug with 11 books finished so far. During 2020 and 2021 and Covid I read a lot more since I was staying home, 20+ books above my usual 100 in a year.
>12 benitastrnad:
Recovering from first week of school?! haven't been ailing, I hope.
I hope to start reading early today. Going out shortly for lunch and stops at eye doc and used book store first.
Husband making dinner so I see me on the porch with wine, cat and book later.
mostly sunny, 84 F. (29 C.)

Not ailing - just ailing from all the crap that a Big State U brings with it every year. Hassling employees about parking, students who think that they can drive cars, electric bicycles and scooters anywhere and everywhere and then leave them wherever they want, (aren't there ordinances for that?), a big U that believes it is their god given right to dictate drinking habits for students and then lets fraternities & sororities serve alcohol in their buildings, A Big U that is the first in its football league to serve beer in the stadium, and lastly, a Big State U who brags about being located in a poor rural state and then gives the football coach a ten year extension on his contract and ups his salary to 12 million a year. Yeah - I am going to spend the weekend recovering.

Friday night update
Books read from: We, the House by Warren Ashworth. Angle of Repose by Wallace Stegner. I am listening to Personal Librarian by Marie Benedict.
Books finished in this weekend's Readathon: Arch Emulator and the Seven Keys by Michael Stewart. Taste For Vengeance by Martin Walker. Swans of Fifth Avenue by Melanie Benjamin
Book Thoughts: I finished several books that I have been reading. Arche Emulator and the Seven Keys is the second book I have finished reading for the Kansas Author's Club contest and it was alright as thrillers go. It was slow to start and the ending didn't seem to fit with the rest of the book, but it had an interesting plot and many of the action scenes were well written. There is a future for this author, but this book is not a finished product, so it won't be my pick for the award. I finished Taste for Vengeance as well. This is book 11 in the Bruno Courrages series. This one had a time worn, or time honored pot for police procedurals so there was nothing new there. What makes this series a winner is the descriptions of the food and wine of the Dordogne region of France. I finished listening to Swans of Fifth Avenue and loved, loved, this book. The narrators were perfect for this novel and they made the characters of Babe Paley and Truman Capote come alive. I highly recommend this recorded version. I am sure that because of the narrators this is going to be one of my top novels of the year. This is surprising as I am not a fan of Truman Capote's writing.
Time reading: 1 hour at lunch today.
Time posting:
Food: I went out to eat at Mellow Mushroom with some friends and had a good time even though the restaurant was noisy. I don't know why restaurants insist on that horrible industrial décor that doesn't allow a person to talk or hear anybody. Even college students might like to sit down to a meal and not have to shout at their neighbor. I had an average tasting calzone and a horrid cocktail for which I paid way too much.
Nonbook activities: Visiting with friends and eating.
Total books finished since the Read-A-Thon Began: 259
Total Time Reading since the Social Distancing read-a-thon began: 700 hours since I started participating in the Read-A-Thon that started in April 2020.

mid-day Saturday.
Off to a slow start to reading. I get so easily distracted!
Books:
Picked up Yaxley's Cat by Robert Westall for the Scaredycat J/YA challenge this month and got through half of it yesterday.
Bought a copy of Distant Shores by K Hannah at the used book store yesterday. Need to read it fast for my book club next week. Did not like Four Winds by her so have not read another of hers till now.
Dinner was leftover Mexican. Thinking of brunch/lunch soon.
Other activity:
FaceTime with kids in California. Got my plane tickets for a visit in Sept.
Watered/fed my pink geranium; need to fill all the bird feeders.
sent postcrossing cards

What are the criteria for the readathon? Read whatever, however, whenever (within the time stated)? If that's all, I could give it a go.
>11 elkiedee: Contrary to most people's experiences, I actually read more during the lockdown/ pandemic slow down.
There was nowhere to go, the kids were at home so I didn't need to run the mum's taxi service or my husband was working from home, so he could stretch his legs and do the school run, when school reopened. 2020 was the first year that I actually read 75 books and I repeated it in 2021, getting close to 100. It looks like that run is over, though - this year I've been crafting (a pandemic purchase, so I really ought to make use of my investment) which has cut into my reading time. Although I have (re)discovered audio books so I could take that route from here.

Sunday afternoon update
Books read from: We, the House by Warren Ashworth. Angle of Repose by Wallace Stegner. Bug Diary by Amber Fraley. I am listening to Personal Librarian by Marie Benedict.
Books finished in this weekend's Readathon: We, the House by Warren Ashworth. Arch Emulator and the Seven Keys by Michael Stewart. Taste For Vengeance by Martin Walker. Swans of Fifth Avenue by Melanie Benjamin
Book Thoughts: I finished the delightful We, the House by Warren Ashworth. This was a very innovative way of looking at the history of a house in a small town in Kansas. The story (history) of the house is told by the house and its interlocutor. The interlocutor is a portrait painted of a Mrs. Speale who can communicate with the house. Through the eyes of both of them we, the readers, get the story of the occupants, the building, and the area around the building. It is a very clever way to tell this story. This one was the third one I have read for the Kansas Authors Club contest. I am judging the science fiction/fantasy part of the fiction contest this year. I am not sure that I would classify this book as science fiction/fantasy but I am not sure what genre it would belong to. Whatever its genre, I think this little novel is going to be on my list of best books of the year! I started reading book 4 for this contest this morning. This one is Bug Diary and I am enjoying it. This one is defiantly a fantasy and so far it is good.
Time reading: 1.5 hour at lunch today.

Nonbook activities: Talked on the phone for 2.5 hours this morning. I did do some knitting during that time. I also spent an hour watching my Nippon TV shows, Oishi and Journeys in Japan, so I got quite a bit knitted on my mohair scarf/shawl.

This is a good chance for me to read and donate some of the J/YA books that have sat on my shelves for years.
brunch was a sausage/egg scramble.
I'm about ready for Happy Hour but trying to wait till my sis arrives any time now. She's spending a couple nights here helping her grand kids get started back to school this week. They live nearby and she stays with me when she comes to town.
Knock at the door! She's here!

Sunday evening update:
I woke up with a horrible headache. Since I'd been notified of COVID exposure late Friday afternoon (from a student employee), I feared I had finally succombed. The COVID test was negative. I will need to test again in 24-48 hours.
Books read from: God Hears Her by Our Daily Bread, Bible (KJV)
Books finished: None
Time reading: ??
Time posting: ??
Snacks: None
Thoughts: Will still do Wordle & Worldle this evening. I really haven't felt like reading because of the headache. It's beginning to ease, but it's still there. I probably just need to take another round of Tylenol.
Non-book activities: cat petting, cross stitch

Snacks: What snacks?! I'm trying to lose weight. Just my dark chocolate digestive and coffee at tea time. Dinner was a very nice tomato, bread & chicken salad that even my son liked. So it must be good.
Thoughts: Really enjoyed the book. The portrayal of the Queen gels with my idea of her - except that I hadn't really considered her as a sleuth before.
Non-book activities: Trying to catalogue my dies and stamps to organise my pandemic investment.

>45 humouress: I never measure the time I spend reading and posting (as opposed to assorted methods of timewasting and even talking to my family occasionally).

>46 elkiedee: I suppose time spent posting and surfing is more than it ought to be and reading is more than my family think it ought to be.
