looking at this link- from the top- it says genevieve foster, which is correct;
however, at the bottom, it says joanna foster and describes an author from london working with troubled teens. it comes up by joanna- when i tried to add to a list- so i had to add a different copy to list. permission to remove Joanna? Or someone else may do so also

Your link shows this book may be inaccurately combined; the original and the later expanded version. Joanna Foster has done the expansion.

okay- i do have the expanded version.
so-title original- as normal- but separate expanded and add - expanded edition in title???
since genevieve is the main author- should joanna be contributing author???

the front cover is vague- but- it seems the expansion may only be in illustrations and index- so, not actually expanding text- but i have not done side by side comparison

okay- i tried my best- ....
first tried changing author- wouldn't let me.
so i took out books one at a time and got it to read genevieve as main author- and joanna as contributor/ secondary author/ some editions. but, it felt like it kept going back to its original state and that i was repeatedly editing the authors on the same book. anyhow. there are about three groups of this title and it won't let me merge any further. here is my viewpoint: genevieve foster is the primary author on all editions. this is her book. a daughter, joanna, expanded the work in the 90's with extra illustrations- and some reviewers have written that she added new people, formerly left out, but didn't otherwise change genevieve's original work.
they could potentially be separated- but i don't know who has which version- and i don't think they will stay separated

>6 EGBERTINA: When you say you were taking books out and there were some that now can't be merged any further, I assume you are talking about these:
https://www.librarything.com/work/4294
https://www.librarything.com/work/28768876
https://www.librarything.com/work/28769055
Those do look like the same work, all with the same primary ISBN. And they couldn't be merged because of the "too much love" 200-copy limit that's in place to prevent inadvertent large work combination. If that's the situation then we can ask the super-users in the "too much love" thread to combine them.
Then once they're combined we can make sure the authors are sorted out. Currently all three have Genevieve Foster as primary and Joanna Foster as secondary, which sounds correct from the discussion here.

I don't know what Lmk is-but there are at least two groups here - maybe more- where people are welcome to randomly spout philosophical or nonsensical. I will try to send u links - but- first i need to reply to the above post. thx

Um as to links, maybe... too much time has past. I tried to make it better.
In the 1940's Genevieve Foster wrote this book. It is her book, unabashedly. FF to 80-s or 90's, her daughter, added tables, charts etc. It is my understanding - that doesn't change- the content and so Genevieve should remain the author. I have both works, but haven't compared them, yet. In the reviews at least one person claims the daughter added words- but not changed words-and that it was discernible-where this occurred- so not really a rewrite.
My second version clearly designates GENEVIEVE as the author and only slightly notable mentions the additions by her daughter. Anyone just coming across this book is going to think it is the same as the first work. (and really, so do I- and i think trying to keep them separate will be an exercise in futility, because people will continue jumbling them up)
When I joined, i was just lopping books in as fast as i could- sadly most probably came from amazon. i have come to realize that even after you clean up the silly data that others have entered- the original data is the data that remains, like the odor of strong cheese. I discovered that my work was calling the daughter the author.
so, i went through, and pulled as many copies as i could that claimed Joanna was author. and eventually got them to read that genevieve was main author, joanna secondary some editions- don't even know how i had figured it out. (To the powers that be- there must be easier ways)
Anyhow, I've moved on, retaining very few brain receptors that correlate to this event... If someone is willing to combine them or fully separate them, that would be great. truly unless you have the original 1940 text, i don't think most people realize that the later edition is not just a reprint. pretty sure it sold as a reprint. then i think u get the whole thing again, with her aBe lincoln book, .. but i don't think I've seen any updates editions to the augustus caesar or william Penn books.
