I might not be remembering this correctly but what I think I remember is:
YA Book series
I read it between likely while I was in middle school- '04-'07
Teenagers traveled back in time for some amount of time, but the longer they stayed in the past the higher likelihood that they would disappear from the current world.
I remember them going back to medieval times but that may not be the case necessarily. I know this is almost no information but I've tried google to no avail.

Could it be the Chronicles of Narnia ? I know that in The lion the witch and the wardrobe the Pevensies begin to forget about the "real world" the longer they stay in Narnia.
