I'm always looking for new books about King Arthur and Merlin. So, what are some favorites?
I personally love Marion Zimmer Bradley's The Mists of Avalon, the Mary Stewart series, The Road to Avalon by Joan Wolf, Courtway Jones' Dragon's Heirs series, Susan Cooper's Dark is Rising series, Jack Whyte's Camulod Chronicles series, T.A. Barron's The Lost Years of Merlin series, Stephen Lawhead's Pendragon Cycle series, Susan Shwartz's The Grail of Hearts, Black Horses for the King by Anne McCaffrey, The Pendragon by Catherine Christian, and Gillian Bradshaw's trilogy that includes Hawk of May, Kingdom of Summer, and In Winter's Shadow.
I also love everything Geoffrey Ashe has done concerning Arthurian archaeology and history...

You've listed a lot of my favorites. I'd also add Parke Godwin's trilogy (Firelord, Beloved Exile, The Last Rainbow), Rosemary Sutcliff's Sword at Sunset, and Sharan Newman's Guinevere trilogy (Guinevere, The Chessboard Queen, Guinevere Evermore). I'm sure I'm forgetting a few, though!
There's an excellent book on Arthurian fiction, by Raymond H. Thompson, entitled The Return from Avalon; I've gotten a lot of good suggestions from it.

Oh, and how could I forget Jo Walton's The King's Name and The King's Peace and Elizabeth Wein's The Winter Prince?

Gwyneira, you have the most books in common with me of anybody here...I can't imagine having over 4000 books posted though! Most of my books are in storage so who knows when I will see them again.
I'll have to look for the Thompson book.

I enjoyed the Keltiad series by Patricia Kennealy, although it might not be to everyone's tastes. It's essentially alternate Arthurian; the Kelts are a spacefaring magical people who had earth ties, and that presumably is the source of the earth legends. The novels began with The Copper Crown, The Throne of Scone, and The Silver Branch; but the prequels are the Arthurian books: The Hawk's Gray Feather, The Oak Above the Kings, The Hedge of Mist. There are two others -- The Deer's Cry and Blackmantle which I haven't read, but one of them I think is a bit more about the author's version of her relationship with Jim Morrison.

Porius by John Cowper Powys will be reprinted in August. It takes place in medeival Britain and Arthur and Merlin are characters in it. I recommend him as highly as I possibly can based on Wolf Solent and Porius is supposed to be his masterpiece. It's been out of print for a long time and a decent used copy usually costs $150+
