Christmas Music

Getting my Christmas on with 2 very different concerts:

Manheim Steamroller--love love love Carol of the Bells!

David Phelps -gospel singer, high tenor--love his "O Holy Night"

And listening to my CD by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir of the Messiah besides various carols while driving.

What are you listening to? Do you like Christmas music? What kind?

I've got Bing Crosby, Lindsey Sterling, and Nightmare Before Christmas on vinyl ... but I am absolutely looking to expand my selection. We also have some pretty good radio stations that go all holiday music around this time of year.

I've been listening to all the Christmas music on Public Radio and my son sent a video of my 3 yr old granddaughter singing herself to sleep with GO TELL IT ON THE MOUNTAIN. : D

I always trim the tree listening to Handel's Messiah. My all time favourite carol, though, is, without a doubt Minuit, Chretiens.

When it comes to Classical Music my favourite work has to be Fantasia on Christmas Carols by Vaughan Williams, closely followed by A Ceremony of Carols, St. Nicolas and Christ's Nativity by Britten. Not forgetting Hely-Hutchinson's A Carol Symphony nor Amahl and the Night Visitors by Menotti. Then there's Christmas Eve by Rimsky-Korsakov and Christmas Eve by Gade. And Handel's Messiah and Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker, of course. I try to listen to them all.

Currently listening to Hely-Hutchinson: Carol Symphony / Standford / Kelly by Prague City Philharmonic Orchestra.

Thoroughly enjoying this album.
