>37 varielle: Georgina Hammick was also a novelist and poet apparently - The Arizona Game and Green Man Running are novels - I really enjoyed some of her work though it was so long ago I now don't remember totally which of her books I've read (obviously time to reread). I have her two novels, her two short story collections in one volume, and the Virago short story anthology. She was also one of the people who contributed her memories of her boarding school days to the book Terms and Conditions: Life in Girls' Boarding Schools 1939-1979 by Ysenda Maxtone-Graham.

And I'm trying to work out why the Guardian obituary also says she was 82, as it says she was born in May 1939 (so she was actually 83).

I’m changing her age above since several other sources confirm she was born in 1939. Maybe math is different on the other side of the pond. 😝

I'm in London, England, and I think it's just a mistake which has been replicated on a few media sources - it's behind a paywall so I haven't read the whole thing but can see on Google that the (UK) Times newspaper published an obituary on 24 January that says she was 83.
