January

The Lamp of Fate - this has been a burden to me. The binding is gone and the story is not particularly appealing. I’ve decided it needs to go into the recycling bin.

Starred!

Another I will recycle, but reluctantly, is M. V. Sexton Speaking. The spine is split and the book is barely holding itself together.

I don’t see them listed in December, though stacked with a couple that are:
They Also Serve
Tide of Empire

I found I own two copies of Grandma Called It Carnal. One can go.

Others:
Grace (Eventually) - going to daughter.
The Mostly True Adventures of Homer P. Figg
The Paper Men
Miss Osborne-the-Mop
The Lemonade War
Browning’s The Pied Piper of Hamlin and other Poems
Nicholas Winton’s Lottery of Life

And one I quit because it was so bad, Free Chocolate

Rummaging and shuffling is productive. I’m finding duplicates.
Ender’s Game
Ender’s Shadow

I wonder if the grands could be pursuaded to read these…

>4 2wonderY: have you read Miss Hickory? It's on my TBR as part of my Newbery challenge.

The Wind in the Willows illustrated by Robert J, Lee. There is nothing further to add. There are 12 pencil sketches that lack any charm except for a sleepy badger going to answer the door.

The Great Gatsby - acknowledging I will probably never read it.
Memoirs of Fanny Hill - acknowledging I will probably never read it again, though I enjoyed it thoroughly back in the 70s.

>16 2wonderY: regarding The Great Gatsby, I read it. Never will again. Don't feel guilty, they're all rotten people and losers in that story.

18lesmel
Mar 13, 9:55 pm

>17 fuzzi: THIS! This is why I didn't recommend reading Gatsby when my bookclub read the retelling The Chosen and the Beautiful. It's why I didn't really care much for the book.

Yeah, I had gathered that much; and I really don’t need that kind of company.

>18 lesmel: it's hard for me to appreciate a book when I don't care if the characters survive or not.

I have to like at least ONE character in the story.

Eight VHS tapes. A couple I don’t care about, a few I think I can get in dvd.

Pretty Woman
Good Morning Vietnam
Pleasantville
Star Trek IV
Star Trek V
The Road Home
In the Company of Whales Discovery channel
And one recorded from TV

There is another handful that I might not find in dvd ever. I do have a VCR, but haven’t been able to figure how to connect it successfully to the flat screen TV.

222wonderY

Three I paid 50 cents for at the library.

The Queen of Clean Conquers Clutter
Peace Out, Dawg!
Got War?

Duplicates

Film - Much Ado About Nothing
Hitty: Her First Hundred Years - can’t decide to keep the 1949 copy or the 1966 library copy. The ‘66 copy has better paper, but a silly abstract cover. The ‘49 copy is a bit rough and yellowed pages, but I think it’s the one I’ll keep.

>23 2wonderY: if Hitty doesn't have a home, I would be happy to provide one.

>24 fuzzi: Now where did I put your box?

I’ve been cleaning the attic bedroom, as daughter is moving in temporarily. It looks great, but I’ve got a few new piles in the bedrooms downstairs.

Harvest of Gold - will offer it to the grands. Not sure any of them like poetry and quotations.

272wonderY
Mar 21, 4:10 pm

Jews, God and History
I considered buying a fresher copy, as mine is small print and very yellowed. Nah.

Magic Elizabeth - I enjoyed reading it again, but can’t imagine any of my crew being attracted to it.

>28 2wonderY: I loved that story, read it many, many times as a child.

I reread it as an adult and still enjoyed it. It's been a while, no review from me listed...tsk, tsk, tsk.

That box of presidential biographies that I rescued. - 40 of them?

342wonderY

Four books by Robert Fulghum
Two National Geographics.
Two editions of The Whole Seed Catalog.
Prose and Poetry of England, including a History of English Literature

There. Last carload of books dropped off at my favorite rural library. I have one box of books left to carry back to KY and one box of collectible button publications to take to the next button show I visit. Just missed the spring Ohio show.

Dagnabbit!! I missed unloading one of the boxes. It was covered with recyclables.

382wonderY

There was an excellent reason that box hid! The stuff at the bottom was NOT stuff I wanted to discard! In fact, I am so relieved and thankful, I am going to kiss that carton!

So far nothing in May.

412wonderY
May 30, 8:33 am

Uh oh. Someone around the block was tossing boxes of old books. I rescued three boxes just so I could sort them and find homes for the darlins. One box is all Mark Twain!!! But the bindings are all falling off!
I already see one or two that I will keep.

When the Whippoorwill
Ken Ward in the Jungle

There is a set of The New Cabinet Cyclopaedia and Treasury of Knowledge from 1899 in really good shape. Sigh.

422wonderY
Jun 1, 2:46 pm

Nothing in May. I can’t count the books I rescued and sorted; though I separated into several piles. One to donate, another to recycle, because the bindings are just shot. Another pile to fondle and inspect, and think about…..

432wonderY
Jun 25, 12:13 pm

I haven’t added anything to the discard pile, but I’ve reduced the pile. One box delivered to North Carolina. Several armfuls distributed to local LFLs.

Paris for Two
Mrs. Polifax, Innocent Tourist
The Wrong Bride
Three magazines rescued from the recycling bin.

462wonderY

It’s a Newberry winner, but I’m not the target audience. Back it goes to the LFL.

It’s too muggy to garden and no phone reception inside. So poking at the piles.
(I have to come out to the deck to post this.)

Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress
The Fourth Gospel
The Private House - beautiful rooms, but too rarified and sterile for me.

Yes, there were still books at the cabin. A box of them stashed away and another two box-worth on the shelf wall I built between bath and bedroom. Looks like some of the latter were stocked for grandkids, and I will be releasing them once i read most.

Little Bear’s Friend
The Magical Worlds of Philip Pullman
Golden Mare
The Neverending Story - print is too small

Enjoyed them, but won’t read again
Jo of the Chalet School
The Princess of the Chalet School

November

Instead of doing other essentials, I’ve decided to deep clean the living room. It has also become a minor dumping place for materials in transit. For instance, there is a box of papers that will go to the ridgetop buyers.

Too many books.
I can release two this morning.

Baby’s First Book - Saalfield Publishing, 1932
A Picture Book of Louis Braille
