Does anyone here ordered “the stand”by Stephen King from Cemetery Dance publisher. I ordered slipcase gift edition. Do you know when they will start shipping it? Don’t have any definitive information on their site
2Nightcrawl
From what I understand, if all goes well it should ship before the end of 2023. However CD is apparently notorious for delays and poor communication, so fingers crossed!

>2 Nightcrawl: thanks for this info. What you think about the quality of their books?

The dj cover is seriously awful! I probably wouldn't have bought it if I knew that was going to be the cover. And no doubt the quality will be crap now. They used to make decent books, but quality has gone down since Night Shift. The Stand will be the last book I ever buy from that abomination of a press.

>3 horrorbooks: The Stand will be my first. So again, fingers crossed haha.

>4 Undergroundman: wondering if I should cancel it? Can you please elaborate more. What’s a problem with their quality and why you think it will be crap for this particular book
>5 Nightcrawl: yes, fingers crossed. This is my first book from cd too. If it’s not good I have no problem calling them directly to discuss it and/or return it lol

>6 horrorbooks: The paper quality, and no doubt a flimsy case. Just look at what they did with the Southern Reach Trilogy recently. Not saying to cancel, but don't expect much. The 1300 page count is going to be brutal on the binding. Should have been a two volume set IMO.

>1 horrorbooks: Why wouldn’t you just email them and ask?

>8 What_What: I did emailed them and got nowhere with their response.

>7 Undergroundman: agreed, should have been a two volume edition. I also don’t understand how single volume binding will be able to handle 1300 pages, especially when you hold the book open to read

Checked their website. They look like a specialty trade publisher to me, so I don't know why they show up in this forum. Definitely not fine press.

>11 Glacierman: The problem is that there is currently no other forum for small press genre publishers so they get lumped in with fine press here. I put Cemetery Dance in the same category as Centipede and SubPress which also get discussed here (but they are quite a bit worse than those publishers in terms of quality and timeliness). The book being discussed sells on the basis of the title and author, it would sell out quickly regardless of the quality (which likely isn't going to be very high).

They also published IT Stephen king and it was as large as the stand. Was IT by CD poor quality?

Cemetery Dance uses 'production updates' for Q & A, which is likely why their customer service often feels below par.
- The site mentions this tome will see the printer this fall.
The last time with 'Night Shift' the printer crashed. I believe I waited around 3 years for that.
Books are nice enough for those that like massive hardcover King volumes.
'The Shining' had the extra prologue, which was a nice addition (not that it was necessary for the story).
This book series are large books. I can't imagine how 'The Stand' will be. Use of a large pillow will be handy.

They also colaborate with PSpublishing in UK, on certain titles. 'The Stand' might pop up there one day.

>13 horrorbooks: Absolutely not. I own the three states that were published and all three are classy productions. Love especially the S/L and lettered.

>14 Pellias: Their production update page is next to worthless, they sometimes go months without updating it and any updates they do offer are almost always vague.
And yes, there was a very noticeable decrease in quality between The Shining and Night Shift. On the one hand, I'm hoping it was a sacrifice made to get the book out in the face of printer issues and paper shortages. On the other hand, CD hasn't really done a lot in recent years that would make me think we'll see a return to the quality seen in the first three Doubleday titles.
