This is a novel that I read in (approx.) 2011-2012 as a child. It was a book from a primary school library in Australia, so age range wise I would say most likely juvenile fiction or YA (probably something along the lines of Artemis Fowl or Ranger's Apprentice, which I also read around this time).
I'm pretty sure the genre was fantasy. The cover had blue/silver/white colours on it in some capacity, and I recall an ice/wintry/cold theme of some kind, but I can't remember if that was the setting or if it pertained to the story/title in some other way.
The plot may have had something to do with soldiers/child soldiers, but part of me thinks that I just made that up and have since come to associate it with the novel - unfortunately, I'm not sure.
It was a paperback written in English, about standard page size and novel length, and not particular well-known, to my knowledge. It's not from Emily Rodda's Rondo series, nor is it by Sarah J. Maas. I don't think it's 'The Ice Soldier' by Paul Watkins, either. That's about all I can remember. Any help would be much appreciated, as I cannot for the life of me remember the title/whether or not the title actually included the word "ice", but I think if I saw the cover it might jog my memory.

Do you think it was a new book, a recent publication at the time?
By an Australian author or an American or British author?

If you think ice was involved in description or title search worldcat.org for
Fantasy ice
Filter by print book, English, juvenile fiction, year range (I put 2000-2012, you might want narrower or wider depending how new the book was).
If that doesn't work take ice out and only use keyword fantasy with filters. Check other sites for covers and plots.

>2 bookel: Hmm I don't think it struck me as being very new at the time. As for author, if I had to guess, probably American or British?

>3 bookel: That's not a bad idea, I'll try searching and see if anything rings a bell. Thankyou.

So for starters you can eliminate this one (Australian). Carmody, Winter door?

Halam, Siberia?
Trying a search on abebooks.com for fantasy ice in keywords, year range 1990-2012.

Could it be one of the Dark Materials books by Philip Pulman: Northern Lights/The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass?

Nice guesses but unfortunately not the one I'm after. Thank you for trying.
Good news though - I think I've found it! The Cry Of The Icemark by Stuart Hill. The worldcat search suggestion was quite useful; I appreciate it. :)

Fantastic! Sometimes the person looking for the book is the one to find it, especially when it comes to recognising a cover. It takes persistence and trying various places to search with the information you have. Writing it out and seeking assistance works. Well done.

>12 bookel: Thanks so much! I can't wait to read it again and see how it holds up.
