Not letterpress, but a gorgeous production -

Released in Fall of 2021, I'm reviewing the Numbered Edition which was released in an edition of 350 and sold out basically instantly. Publication price was $475.

The illustrations by Tom Bagshaw are wonderful. The slipcase is really gorgeous and is truly one of the most beautiful slipcases I have held. The paper used is Mohawk Via. The cover is fabulous, and the blind stamp of the death's-head hawkmoth is lovely. The book is signed by both the illustrator and Thomas Harris. Overall, this is as superb a book as you will find that is still printed offset.

To my knowledge, the only other publisher to produce a signed edition of Silence of the Lambs is Subterranean, and only the "lettered edition" (52 copies) was signed by Thomas Harris. The Subterranean lettered edition was also $1500. Lastly, I was not a fan of the illustrations -

I feel that Subterranean was a miss, but Suntup's edition is magnificent. Now, the pics -

I hate the artwork. Everybody looks like a young person. Much prefer the Mowry work from Red Dragon, and Hannibal. Silence does however have a gorgeous sheen though. Those boards are sure purty.

>2 Undergroundman: Clarice is in her young 20s, so yeah, she's a young person. She's also the only person clearly visible in the artwork, apart from one illustration of Dr. Hannibal Lecter but he is wearing his mask and in a straight jacket. The artwork accurately reflects the novel and I personally think it's great.

When you buy only the numbered or lettered editions, you miss out on the most spectacular art that is usually on the jackets of Suntup books. It is certainly true of all three books in this series. Bagshaw also illustrated Hannibal Rising, but I don’t consider it to be part of the series. For the record, I prefer Bagshaw’s art but it is only a personal preference.

OT: The portrait of Poe on the jacket of “Poetry and Tales” is amazing and has to be seen in person to be appreciated. It has almost a 3-D effect that jumps out at you.

You get a ceramic lamb figurine with each order?

>5 wooter: Yes, for the numbered and lettered editions. They come in a small Suntup box.

Thanks! I did not know prints were available. They are reasonable indeed.

>8 ultrarightist: I doubt it. It feels like glazed ceramic to me. It’s also very small (1 inch in length and height).

>8 ultrarightist: No, it's ceramic made by Hagen-Renaker, which sadly closed in 2021 :(
