A collective of bibliophiles and book professionals, is putting together a free and downloadable database of books about books in order to provide resources for collectors, booksellers, librarians, bookbinders, and anyone else who's involved in the management, care, and research of books and collections.

The database can be found here (updated often).

Our Facebook page

Our website will also serve as a repository of free online resources for conducting research on books and their various attributes. This is an ongoing multi-year project with much more to come!

I just recently joined the team which consists of: Noel Hart (book seller and author of "And that was only the front counter, working in the used book business in Los Angeles"), Brian Quast (collector of books about books), Todd Sommerfeld (miniature book expert and publisher), Art Kieres (bookseller & bookbinder), and Mark Coulbourne (Preservation Librarian).

We're looking forward in having meaningful interactions with the group, sharing resources, and to learn from you.

>1 Glacierman: One of the main reason's I decided to catalog some of my books on this site was the opportunity to make a list of my reference books. For the most part they are references for Children's books and Science Fiction/Fantasy. If any of this is of interest I would be happy to share informaion on these titles. Some of my references are quite obscure. Many were Privately Printed in small numbers, so another collector might have much trouble trying to find some of these reference books. And some of my Reference volumes may be out of the scope of this project.

>1 Glacierman:
I was in Half-price Books store yesterday and found "Science-Fiction The Early Years" by Everett F. Bleiler.
It was published in 1990 and covers SciFi from early times until 1930 (but there listings of much later works, too). The author did tremendous research and lists information about first publications, including magazines of everything Sci Fi related - from short stories to novels - more than 3000 works, plus synopsis of story lines, bios of authors, and short evaluation of works!

There are indexes by themes, years of publication, author names, and titles.

I think that it is a valuable resource. I bought the book yesterday and had a look through it last night -- no regrets; only excitement and admiration for author's research! I don't know if you are aware of this book, but I did not find it in your database.

>4 booksforreading: Thanks for the note. Bleiler's book has been a go-to for SF collectors and dealers ever since it was published. It is primarily a bibliography and we won't be listing those for a while yet. We will get to them eventually, though. I have several in my library reference section that will end up in the data base, but not for a while. There are soooo many other non-bibliographic books-about-books that we'll be kept busy for quite a spell.
