I am trying to use CK to help people to catch up with characters in series. I don't want to post spoilers unless they can be shielded. I cant' begin to tell you how many times I have picked up a book in a series and asked myself who is this? I realize that it may take several spoilers shields for some characters since they bridge multiple books. Is this an appropriate use of CK and if so how should it be done? Will not do anything until I hear back. Have a good one

Um, this is not what the character field is for, nor can you put any type of spoiler tag into the CK field.
Now you can put basic, non spoiler details in parenthesis beside the name.
For instance:
John Smith (Captain)
Augustus Gloop (child)

>1 KCGordon01: The best place to put details about a character is in the character description box on the character's page. You notice how the names are blue in CK on the work page? Those are links to the character's pages, where you can enter any details you feel are appropriate in the description field.
See https://www.librarything.com/character/Sherlock+Holmes as an example.

Cool, I've been limiting my descriptions in the character description box to what the character was introduced as and left out any spoilers since I could find no shields and will continue to do so.

>2 gilroy: But if you use the parentheses it puts the information in the "Order" field which can't be right, though some are doing it and it does give a good look and when differentiating individual books could work better. Maybe change in labeling for the character page is in order. Until then I'll continue to use the way Amanda 4242 mentioned. Don't worry no spoilers were entered. That's why I asked.

Please realize that right now, character pages are lumped, so descriptions need to be labeled when you have multiple series and a common name. From what has been discussed, changes are coming when the character pages are updated to LT2.0.
>6 KCGordon01: True, that's a CSS issue. It really doesn't help or hurt the order of the books on the character pages.
