Adding a book not adding a book

Just manually added "The Barchester Chronicles" by Anthony Trollope, edited and abridged by Michael Hardwick, ISBN 0-7088-2234-7

On my home page if I point my mouse at it it says: https://www.librarything.com/work/30445240/book/242643376

On my "Add books" page it is at the top of the list as:
https://www.librarything.com/work/30445240/book/242643376
If I click on that link I go to:
https://www.librarything.com/work/book/242643376

On the Michael Hardwick page https://www.librarything.com/author/hardwickmichael

It doesn't show up.

But a work of the same name shows up as:
https://www.librarything.com/work/10813450 1 copy

If I click on ''that'' link I go to:
https://www.librarything.com/work/10813450 13 members (not me though)

So I've got a book without a work number, the existing work shows up incorrectly on the Michael Hardwick page, and my book doesn't show up on Hardwick or Trollope.

I seem to recall having this problem before.

Well I've managed to combine them at last.

Could be this topic you're recalling: https://www.librarything.com/topic/334517

One thing I can say on clarifying one point, is a URL in the format: https://www.librarything.com/work/book/### isn't a bug in itself, to have no work ID number in it. That's how the site allows for a 'permalink' to a book page which will remain valid irrespective of how the work combination might change the work ID over time, unless/until the owner deletes their copy of the book.

Of relevance though: it's also how the site handles being asked to go to a non-existent work ID for a book, which could indicate the site hadn't yet fully processed the work ID 30445240 from your manual addition if it was sending you to the work/book page immediately after you added it, instead of opening a work/30445240/ page.

Now that it's been combined, work ID 30445240 doesn't exist anyway (going to its work-only-work page https://www.librarything.com/work/30445240 correctly redirects to /work/10813450) so I am not sure there is any way to further diagnose whether it was 'just' slow server updating, or anything more buggy (just my interpretation of the events anyway). The outcome being as things should be (correct combine, and 14 owners) is what would happen if it was 'just' slow server.

If similar happens again, I would recommend take a look at the work-only-work pages (without the /book part of the URL) for both work IDs as that would offer insight into where your book is or isn't located, whether the work does or doesn't exist on the server, and who it thinks the author is, etc. Sorry I wasn't online at the time as could then be speaking with a bit more certainty, but glad at least it ended up correct and hope this has been somewhat useful to you on the work/book URL info if nothing else.

Seems to be a duplicate of https://www.librarything.com/topic/312780, yes?

Trying to add "The Mysterious Island" https://www.librarything.com/work/183845 to my library, not any specific book, just the work, so basically any book.
If I'm just clicking on "+Add" button, not changing anything, so it's a paperback edition from amazon.com. Instead of this work it adds a book from the other work https://www.librarything.com/work/7695335 (some abridged version).
It looks like a bug to me because it adds the work I wasn't looking for instead of the specific work I had opened.

>6 Deil: The add book button goes to a source. It does not add from LT.

Not a bug, and not the bug this topic was about.

Your easiest way to add just the work with no other information is to use manual add at the bottom of the add book page.
