I am definitely in! I have June TIOLI books to finish up and July TIOLI books to start!

Mom's doing better today, we went to see her and she's alert and able to nod and smile. She's on a ventilator so she can't talk. She should be able to come off the ventilator tomorrow. She's going to have to have several surgeries over the next few weeks. She has one compound fracture in each leg and one not compound fracture in each leg. Plus a few broken ribs and a cracked collar bone. Also lots of cuts and bruises. The worst injury is where her skull is dislocated from her spine. If her platelet levels come up they'll do the neck surgery tomorrow. They put metal rods on her legs yesterday.

Book Thoughts: I read East of Eden years ago and liked it. Since Mark has a group read going I will participate by listening to the recorded version of the book. I started it yesterday.
Non-Book activities: It is so hot down here that I don't feel like doing anything. I will stay inside and probably do a little baking, but not much as it is too hot. I also need to wash and vacuum the car out, but it is too hot to do that. I spent about 2 hours at the swimming pool yesterday and found out that they have a water aerobics class meeting on Thursday evenings. I am going to join!

Books finished in this weekend's Readathon: Network Effect by Martha Wells
Book Thoughts: I finished reading Network Effect. I took it with me to the swimming pool and finished it late last night. It made for easy reading but it took me a long time to finish as I kept having to put it down to read other books that had a deadline on them. I started Mushroom Tree Mystery. This is a series of mysteries set in Singapore during the British colony days and now this book is set in 1944 under the Japanese Occupation.
I like this series and was led to it by a book bullet from Chatterbox. This series is a Goldilocks mystery series. It is not a thriller mystery series. It isn't a cozy mystery either. It is somewhere between those two poles. This novel tells the story from the viewpoint of a young Chinese/Malay woman so you see a different side of Colonial Singapore. The main character has "modern" ideas and wants change. She is employed and working with the British police when - Wham! along comes WWII and that changes everything.
Non-Book activities: It is hot. I told myself that I would work for one hour on cleaning and getting stuff out to recycling, trash, or the thrift store and then I would sit and binge watch Star Trek Discovery season 4. That is exactly what I did.

Book Thoughts: My main squeeze this weekend is To Kill A Troubadour by Martin Walker. I should have had this book read by the end of June, but because I was in Kansas so long, I couldn't get it from the library in time. I am the moderator of a mystery series reading group here on LT and I think it is just terrible that I didn't get the book for the month read by the end of the month. What kind of a leader is that? I just placed my ILL order for the book for July, so I hope it gets here fast!!!
Non-Book activities: It is still hot. I wanted to go to the pool this afternoon but it was closed. It was thundering about 2 PM and when it thunders they close the pool. The forecast is for there to be scattered showers for the rest of the afternoon and evening, so they just closed the pool. Last night I went to the final night of the Miss Alabama pageant. This is the state pageant for the Miss American contest. I had never been to one of these and I found it interesting. The auditorium was quite large and it was full. Pageants are not something I like or even condone, but a friends granddaughter was participating and she wanted somebody to go with her, so I went. It was nice and cool in the auditorium and the entertainment was good.

It is amazing that someone that young could write something this detailed. It does require attention to those details so being able to read larger chunks at a time works best for me.
Not much more to report: I am watching Wimbledon and doing a bit of instructional design work for a client before heading out to the pool to float and read.

Book Thoughts: I spent more time reading Mushroom Tree Mystery today than I did To Kill A Troubadour.
Non-Book activities: I spent most of the day doing small chores and binge watching Star Trek Discovery. I went the 4 blocks to Home Depot and purchased new light bulbs to replace the ones that have burned out at my house while I was gone. I also replaced the light bulbs in my office room because they simply weren't putting out enough light. I also cleaned a bit in the living room and went to the U-Haul store and purchased two book boxes and two small boxes, which I intend to fill with books in preparation for moving this fall.

Book Thoughts: I spent more time reading Mushroom Tree Mystery today than I did To Kill A Troubadour.
Non-Book activities: I spent most of the day doing small chores and binge watching Star Trek Discovery. I went the 4 blocks to Home Depot and purchased new light bulbs to replace the ones that have burned out at my house while I was gone. I also replaced the light bulbs in my office room because they simply weren't putting out enough light. I also cleaned a bit in the living room and went to the U-Haul store and purchased two book boxes and two small boxes, which I intend to fill with books in preparation for moving this fall.

Finished The Secrets of Hartwood Hall
Next is She's Gone, YA thriller by David Bell
and my audio book is Fifty Words for Rain for my 2nd book club.
Dinner was garden salad, chicken nuggets, tater tots, and one chocolate covered ginger cookie.
Other activity:
postcrossing; watching Ken Burn's Country Music tv series; watered my pots and filled the feeders and bird baths; planning my cooking schedule for baby shower next weekend.
Full moon tonight.
My ancient cat, that died in November, liked to go out in our small back garden and frolic in the moonlight.
I need another pet. It's lonely after having my sister's 2 cats here for a week and then my niece's cat and dog the next week.

Book Thoughts: I finished Book 15 in the Bruno Courreges series this afternoon. As usual it was filled with food, wine, cooking, and life in the Périgord, with very little murder mystery. This one was the June book for the mystery series reading group here on LT. I am just about a week late on getting it read and I am the moderator.
Non-Book activities: I spent most of the day doing small chores and binge watching Star Trek Discovery. I cooked today and had lunch with friends and then napped. It was a holiday, so I holidayed. I cooked a breakfast casserole and so will eat good for the rest of the week.

Books: Still reading She's Gone, YA thriller by David Bell
Tonight is book club and I have finished the book - The Lions of Fifth Avenue.
Lunch was egg salad on a toasted croissant.
Other activity:
Started watching the tv series, 'In the Dark'.
My sis and I preparing for baby shower on Sun. Expecting 40 guests & family. I tried making pinwheel mints and the little logs are chilling in the fridge. I need to go slice them up and see how they turned out. I'm making meringues later, and more cookies and cupcakes. My husband offered to make lemon bread.
Watered the pots and hanging baskets; filled the bird baths. Watched a robin and a brown thrasher splashing in the saucers!
Sunny, 88 F. Thunderstorms expected.
