Mom's doing very well. She'll probably be moving from the hospital to a nursing home in the next week or two.

>2 SilverWolf28: That’s great news!
I’m going to jump back in to Readathon this week and I’ll be reading The Surgeon of Crowthorne. Already very atmospheric, it should be perfect for a blustery weekend.

Great news about your mum, Silver. Must be such a relief to you (both).
I thought I was going to have to work this weekend but I won't, so I'll have unexpected extra free time (including time alone as I'll have the place to myself at least for most of Saturday) so I hope to be able to get some reading time in.
It's been ages, and I'm in a real cuddle-up-with-a-book-and-a-cup--of-tea mood as winter seems to have arrived earlier than expected (we have snow!) and I'm feeling a bit chilly.
I'll try to make some progress with the books I'm in the middle of and need to finish, but I'm also in the mood for something a bit eerie. Amber tempted me with a Bradbury books the other day so that's a possibility.
I also have some things to do besides reading (knitting, getting the last of the veggies out of the garden, walking, yoga, laundry, physiotherapy, cleaning, and sending in an application for a new job).

I'm in, and home all weekend except for a short shift at the neighborhood library.
Books:
Almost done with Banyan Moon
Started Inherit the Darkness by Willo Davis Roberts
Listening to The Giver of Stars. I need to walk more and finish this up!
Other bk activities:
I found all 12 jack-0-lanterns in the LT Halloween Hunt!
I did have to look up hints for 3 of them..
Took books to my favorite used book store yesterday and brought a few more home...
I have to re-read Moon Over Manifest for book discussion I'm leading in early Nov.
Other activity:
Music being another passion of mine, I've been listening to Mark O'Connor, musical genius, on YouTube.
I just booked airbnb and got tickets for a musical weekend in Virginia. We're going to the Blue Ridge Folk Life Festival and staying in Floyd, VA where they have bluegrass and old-time string band music every weekend.

Saturday report
Books read from: Skippy Dies by Paul Murray. Vanished Smile: The Mysterious Theft of Mona Lisa by R.A. Scotti. I am listening to Red Garden by Alice Hoffman.
Books finished: Skippy Dies by Paul Murray
Book Thoughts: I finished reading Skippy Dies this morning and this book will be one of my best of the year. It comes late in the year, but it is a really good novel. It is slow to get going but it really packs a punch once it gets started. On so many levels. There is stuff in there about history, education, teenaged angst, and what it means to take your place in the world.
Non-Book activities: talking on the phone. This has become the daily activity that takes the most time and I am getting tired of it.
Time reading: 1 hour this morning.
Time posting:
Food: yogurt and bagel for breakfast
Total books finished since the Read-A-Thon Began: 359
Total Time Reading since the Social Distancing read-a-thon began: 1029.5 hours since I started doing the weekend Read-A-Thon in April of 2020.

weekend wrap up
Books read from: Iron Hand of Mars by Lindsey Davis. I am about to finish Vanished Smile: The Mysterious Theft of Mona Lisa by R.A. Scotti. I am listening to Red Garden by Alice Hoffman.
Books finished: Skippy Dies by Paul Murray
Book Thoughts: The more I think about Skippy Dies the more impressed I am with the book. I am having great fun with book book 4 in the Marcus Didius Falco series. And getting a whirlwind tour of the Roman experience in Germania while doing it.
Non-Book activities: talking on the phone. This has become the daily activity that takes the most time and I am getting tired of it.
