It was a group of older teens, around 18+/- a few years. Old Celtic and pagan creatures and gods start appearing in our realm. There's an "end of the world" component, and they have a much older man with them who was trapped in the fey realm. He teaches them the rules of the fey (don't accept any gifts unless given freely and without obligation, etc). Has pagan gods like the green man and the hunstman.
Set in the present day, or at least when they were written. The series or parts of it were new about 15 years ago. Definitely not kids appropriate, there's a bit about sex being tied to magic and the real meaning of "riding a broomstick". And they smoke joints to help them when the need to cross over to the fairy realm.
Not Celia Rees Supernatural trilogy or The Dark is Rising Susan Cooper
Would really appreciate any help... thank you

Maybe Everworld?

I'm pretty sure it was more new adult than young adult. Everworld sounds like a really interesting series though, I'll definitely be checking it out. Thanks for the help!

Sounds like Mark Chadbourne's Age of Misrule series - starts with World's End
