The Weird gives a 1944 date for this one, despite what looks like a sound bibliographic reference at isfdb for 1941.

William Sansom is a long time favorite of mine. As a lurker to your compelling threads, I am looking forward with great interest to your reactions to his talent.

Well, that was a fine parable of Sisyphean Existentialism. Despite the VanderMeers' assurance that it would reward re-reading, I think I got it all on one slow pass. It's short enough that I felt at leisure to reread a few of the paragraphs and to review the structure as I progressed through the story.

Quite a sting at the end of this one.

Maybe the denizens of Room One should have just went with the approach of Room Four. Would they be any worse off?>
