I'm working on an ARC from LT--The Seaside Corpse by Marthe Jocelyn. It's the latest in the series featuring Aggie & Hector (child characters based on Agatha Christie and Hercule Poirot). I've got a few others I may rotate in--a couple of Christmas things and a book I was supposed to read in October for my Mt. TBR category. (I never made it around to it, and honestly, I'm still not really motivated to read it, although I'm trying. Once I actually get into it, I may find I enjoy it. Who knows?)

While I don't celebrate Thanksgiving, I hope to read more this weekend than I have for a long while. I'm trying to change my nighttime routines into going to bed earlier and always reading at least a little before turning out the lights (which I used to always do) so hopefully I can get some reading done that way.
I do need to get started on the Christmas baking and sweet-making this weekend but there should be plenty of time.
I'll be re-reading an old favourite—Ragtime by E. L. Doctorow and maybe make some headway with books I've been meaning to finish for ages.

I'm bringing 3 pies, bean salad, creamed corn, various snacks/drinks. We'll have 12 including 3 kids.

I'm in for this! Since I'm just 9 days after a total knee replacement surgery, I'm mostly sitting on my arse for the holiday. Both of my sons, with their wives will be with us - one son, a culinary school grad, will be doing most of the cooking (life is rough, I know...). Currently reading The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert Heinlein, and Tales of Mystery and Imagination by Edgar Allan Poe.

Today I've taken trash to the dump, picked up a few last minute groceries, made pimiento cheese, cranberry relish, flan (in the oven now), and pumpkin butter (cooking in the Crock pot).
While I was driving and then cooking, I listened to several chapters of The Murder of Mr. Wickham. The author brings together Fitzwilliam and Elizabeth Darcy and their young adult son, Edmund and Fanny Bertram, Colonel and Marianne Brandon, Frederick and Anne Wentworth, and Juliet Tilney (daughter of Henry and Catherine) in a house party hosted by George and Emma Knightley at Donwell Abbey. Mr. Wickham shows up unannounced and a fierce storm coops everyone up for several days. Someone murders Mr. Wickham, and it turns out that just about everyone had a motive. So far the author has managed to destroy every one of the marriages that Austen so carefully crafted in her novels. I can't believe that the author is truly an Austen fan. Maybe she'll redeem herself when the mystery is resolved, but I'm not holding my breath.
I am also reading a Nero Wolfe mystery, The Silent Speaker, but it's slow going with so much to do.

Book Thoughts: I have read 60 pages of House of Always and have gotten back into the story. I am looking forward to all that reading time in the airports. I finished listening to Celestine Prophecy for my real life book club and started listening to a work of historical fiction Coral Thief by Rebecca Stott. I have just been buzzing through the books this last month.
Non-Book activities: I am looking forward to my Thanksgiving trip tomorrow. It will start early as I will have to get up at 4 AM and leave the house ASAP after that. The bad weather in the east isn't going to affect me much as I am flying west. However, my sister told me that it will be 34 and snowing when I get to Bozeman. I will get there in time to have a Thanksgiving Supper with my sister and brother-in-law. I have my suitcase packed and in the car. I will put my last minute stuff into my backpack tonight and then will go to bed so I can get up that early. At the moment I am sitting in a very busy Starbucks. I thought the place would be quiet but it has been hopping for the last hour. One of the barista's told me that it has been like this since about 10 AM. She thinks that people are out shopping. The traffic has been heavy on the streets. In contrast, yesterday was very quiet.

I've read from several books--some are just my regular devotional type ones (Bible, Spurgeon's Morning by Morning and Evening by Evening, a women's devotional, and a Bible study on prayer for a group that meets every other Thursday evening (usually).
The main focus has been The Seaside Corpse by Marthe Jocelyn. I should finish it tonight. I will begin Blood Atonement by Dan Waddell and one of the Christmas books, probably The Christmas Quilt by Jennifer Chiaverini after that.
I've also been listening to Harbour Street by Ann Cleeves. I should finish it tomorrow en route to Johnson City where I plan to look at fabric for finishing cross stitch projects and then sit and stitch at the cross stitch store. (A couple things I ordered have come in, but I mainly want to stay away from big stores and crowds.)

This morning I have been on a Starbucks run and grocery shopping. I listened to several chapters of The Murder of Mr. Wickham at home and in the car while running my errands. I've also read a couple of chapters of Children of the Street. I won't have as much time for reading today as I thought I might. I've been invited to another Thanksgiving dinner with a neighbor's family who are celebrating today.

Non-book activities: made blueberry jam, baked for this evening’s bonfire at a friend’s house using the blueberry jam, crocheted a bookmark to go with a book I am giving my mother for Christmas
Got caught up with chores and such but finally sat down to read about 1 PM and got in 3 hours. I can squeeze in another half hour or so before the bonfire.
Notes: Bernie Taupin, not surprisingly, has a way with words. And he often uses them to skewer people and places and activities. He can be equally as complimentary but not as often and certainly not as funny.

Book Thoughts: I have read 350 pages of House of Always and am enjoying this book 4 of the epic fantasy series Chorus of Dragons. I have been diligent in reading from the book all this week. In airports and airplanes and while relaxing.
Non-Book activities: I have been doing a little hiking this week while here in Montana. I arrived on Thursday in time for the traditional Thanksgiving supper. It was a bit of an adventure as I spent 1 hour and 15 minutes sitting just off of the concourse in the airplane for we didn't know what reason. Finally the pilot said that the deicing truck was having mechanical problems and we had to wait. Eventually the sun came up enough that the pilot said that the ice on the wings had melted off and we were leaving. (this was in Birmingham, Alabama where the low temperature that night was 35 degrees!) This delay made is it so that I had 7 minutes to get from one end of the concourse in Denver to the opposite side. I did make the plane to Bozeman and I wasn't the last person to get on. But it was a near run thing. Since arriving I did a short hike in Natural Bridge State Park outside of Big Timber, MT and today we went to Mammoth Hot Springs and found it just as beautiful as it was three years ago when I was there. Tomorrow it will be the Museum of the Rockies and all those dinosaurs!

Book Thoughts: I have read 350 pages of House of Always and am enjoying this book 4 of the epic fantasy series Chorus of Dragons. I have been diligent in reading from the book all this week. In airports and airplanes and while relaxing.
Non-Book activities: I have been doing a little hiking this week while here in Montana. I arrived on Thursday in time for the traditional Thanksgiving supper. It was a bit of an adventure as I spent 1 hour and 15 minutes sitting just off of the concourse in the airplane for we didn't know what reason. Finally the pilot said that the deicing truck was having mechanical problems and we had to wait. Eventually the sun came up enough that the pilot said that the ice on the wings had melted off and we were leaving. (this was in Birmingham, Alabama where the low temperature that night was 35 degrees!)
