I'm still in the middle of the story, but I'm finding it interesting that last week and this week both have narrative setups featuring the recent death of a family member.

Well, I found this one to be an uneasy amalgam of commentary on society (consumerism and the post 9/11 American security state), a revenge tale, and the Mythos. Perhaps Deedee gave into her understandable appetite for revenge at story's end.

I had fun with this story, and it reminded me strongly of Jason Pargin's John Dies at the End books, complete with the young protagonists, sardonic social commentary, and the "happy" ending. I think having it follow the Wagner (complete with the parallelism I noted) created a miscue for tone, and that might have been why >4 RandyStafford: found it a little dissonant.
