Fiction
From an audiobook I "read" - almost positive it was a Griot Audiobook.
A collection of short stories about black women.
One story was about a very homely black hairdresser who got rich (and then found she couldn't keep the men away)
Another story was about a "wailing wall" a woman would go to a wall and I believe she stuffed slips of paper (with her troubles written on them) into the wall.
Each story provided a life lesson for the reader.
I checked out this audiobook in the early 1990s in Lexington KY.
This has been bothering me for decades, and I will check back here!
I would love to read this again - print or audiobook!
Thank you.

Interesting query. The Wailing Wall is a real thing in Jerusalem where people do exactly what the character did, so that might give us a helpful clue.
I've tried a few tagmashes - nothing yet, but will keep a lookout.

Well I didn't know that. Thank you for that information. Thanks for your search. I really, really regret not making a note of that book title!
Take care!

I just peeked at your profile info - I believe my sister got married in Colchester. She now wishes she would have remained in England :)

It's a lovely town! I'm just here for a few months for work, but am having a wonderful time. There are many very nice bridal boutiques, which makes me suspect lots of pretty weddings nearby.
I'll let you know if I have any more leads on the book - may yet be able to turn something up.
