I'm in! Going to hit 75 during this Read-a-thon barring acts of dieties ...

Definitely will be reading System Collapse, the latest/last of the Murderbot Diaries (so far). Found this series recommended here on LT and agree totally with the reviewer - hard to put down. I'm eyeing Ian McEwan's Machines Like Me but am open to grabbing whatever strikes my fancy, too. Still haven't read two of the book gifts I received last Xmas, and one of those is a Louise Erdrich, so maybe those will get my attention!

Happy reading all ... and enjoy a festive weekend!

Friday report
Books read from: Long Retreat: In Search of a Religious Life by Andrew Krivak. Best American Food Writing 2023 by Mark Bittman. Doc by Mary Doria Russell. I am listening to Seveneves by Neal Stephenson.

Books finished: Last Collection by Jeanne Mackin

Book Thoughts: I listened to half of Seveneves by Neal Stephenson while driving back to Kansas. It is a total of 25 CD's and I have listened to 15 of them. The book is very interesting. Great stuff in there and so much science about space travel and living in space. The narrator is a woman and that surprised me as sci/fi isn't normally narrated by women. So far this book has been a pleasant surprise. I am also reading a book that I didn't plan on reading. That is Best American Food Writing 2023. I stuck it in my suitcase at the last minute because it was a skinny book and fit into the front flap of the roller bag. I ended up reading a couple of chapters on my overnight drive to Kansas and liked it so I kept reading it. I am close to the end now and should finish it tonight.

Non-Book activities: I will be baking and participating in the church's Christmas program. I didn't think I would be doing so, but they were short a piano player and I got volunteered. It is fun and I am enjoying working with the kids and getting reacquainted with the adults at church as well.

Time reading: 1 hour
Time posting:
Food: some delicious potato soup and a nice slice of sourdough bread with butter. And of course, the required slice of gingerbread cake. Required, that is, for this time of year.

Total books finished since the Read-A-Thon Began: 377
Total Time Reading since the Social Distancing read-a-thon began: 1070.5 hours since I started doing the weekend Read-A-Thon in April of 2020.

Saturday report
Books read from: Long Retreat: In Search of a Religious Life by Andrew Krivak. Last Act in Palmyra by Lindsey Davis. Doc by Mary Doria Russell. I am listening to Seveneves by Neal Stephenson.

Books finished: Last Collection by Jeanne Mackin. Best American Food Writing 2023 by Mark Bittman.

Book Thoughts: I got a good start on another of the Marcus Didius Falco series by Lindsey Davis and it has already made me laugh. I can't wait to learn about his adventures in the desert part of the Roman Empire around 70 C.E. I also continue to read a few pages a day on Long Retreat and am finding it engaging and a very different kind of memoir.

Non-Book activities: It was a quiet day here in the Prairie Redoubt. It was clear in the morning with a beautiful sunrise. Then it got foggy, then cloudy, and now the wind is up and it is raining. The wind is still from the southeast so it will likely be a rainy Christmas Eve. I hope to make it to Midnight Mass tomorrow so it will be a long day.

Time reading: 1 hour
Time posting:
Food: frosted one gingerbread cake and baked another. Both will be for gifts. I have several more to bake and give away.
