Found: YA time travel with best friends and oranges

This book has plagued me for YEARS, I don't know how long ago I read it but it's a YA or possibly younger, middle school age book. I remember the whole plot in detail but the broad idea is the main character's dad is working on time travel, she and her best friend Kate get taken by the government to convince him to tell them how it works, but the mc escapes through a portal. She ends up in modern day USA (came from... early 1900s? England) and starts looking for Kate who she thinks is dead by now. She's not, they find each other, they eat oranges at the end. I think the cover was plain white with an orange on it too.
Please someone help me find this book, I'm starting to think I dreamed it!

NEVER MIND!!! I don't know why this worked but I tried searching one more time and I found it! Once Was A Time by Leila Sales (and the best friend's name is Kitty, not Kate :/ maybe that impacted my searching). I have literally been looking for this for YEARS I'm so excited!
