New subterranean adventures in cataloging

Westwater here, writing from a foggy island situated in the northeast Pacific ocean. We're maintaining and recataloguing (with considerable muttering along the lines of "who packed this box, and why is this book even here?")

Recataloguing wobbles along at a measured pace: 115 books so far (out of thousands....)

Our focus is underground mining technology of the Pacific Rim, with a leavening of old engineering studies from Great Britain.

We've inherited a large quantity of 'grey literature', being unpublished reports and the occasional pass-alongs from retired scientists. We find ourselves making choices as to how the Library of Congress schema is best applied to these items.

Good to be here!

Welcome. You’ve got an absorbing task ahead of you. I hope you relax and enjoy it. Have you found the manual add feature at the bottom of the Add Books page?

And I found access to a scanner very useful, as I have a largish collection of obscure early 20th century fiction.
You’ll want to add your own cover images, I’ll bet.

Welcome and good luck in your endeavor. Sending a virtual treat to library kitties :)

>2 2wonderY: yes, 'manual add' is well-used here. Have a scanner but haven't attempted integration yet. Some of the old mining books are gilt-stamped, so maybe there is a felicitous starting point.

>3 SandraArdnas: Kitties have done a good job at controlling book-chomping bugs. One sleeps in a basket-chair that gets good sunlight (between oceanic rainstorms) while the other sleeps in a nest-box atop a filing-cabinet. Treats always appreciated!
