Found: Fantasy Mysterious gloomy

I don’t know much as I read this four years ago but there was a girl and either her grandfather or dad was on an island or it might have been a light house. One day a creature washes up on shore and his name is Cal he’s like this weird sea creature and so he joins them. Ik later on in the book there is this boat that the girl and cal have started to make. Sorry for not a lot of info but hopefully someone can help me find it. Also the book is just a single book not a series.
