Found: Fiction; family dynamics

It starts out with a man who moves from ireland to brooklyn and becomes a cop. He finds a wife and they move out to the suburbs - their house has boulders or something that reminds him of ireland. Their neighbors are another cop he works with and his wife whos name i think is anne, and their son. The story follows the children of both couples who end up getting married. Anne had a mental break involving her husbands gun and has to be hospitalized. Anne eventually wants to be a part of her sons life again.

I believe this is Ask Again, Yes by Mary Beth Keane.
